Just Diagnosed and Desperate for a Baby!

I'm 28 and after years of irregular periods and taking the pill I have just been diagnosed with PCOS. It was only due to some discomfort and what I thought was a unnatural bleed my sily gp referred me for a emergency scan. Sure enough when I attended the scan I see both my ovaries absolutely covered in cysts. In the moment I felt like my world had been ripped apart. I have been trying for about 4 months now to fall pregnant but with one periodand complete lack of ovulation according to my clear blue test kit was leaving me devastated each time I took a pregnancy test. I had shared my concerns at the start with my gp when I first thought about trying for a baby and they said all will be fine and it's not till after a year of people trying would they intervene and do bloods etc. Well thank god I pushed them to do something last week otherwise I could of been none the wiser! I'm now seriously considering legal action against them for lack of due care etc as irregular periods have been part of my life since 16!!! Anyway enough waffling I just wanted to share my story and see how other people find this disease impacts on their life. From what Ive read I seem to be one of the lucky ones with no acne hairloss or excessive growth or even weight gain. I simply suffer from no periods! I am awaiting for my referral to the fertility clinic where the consultant has explained they will no doubt prescribe me Chlomid. I just wanted to here any stories/comments from people who have tried chlomid and have they had success and is there any nasty side effects to watch out for? I'm trying to stay positive sad x

    Hi Amy

My sister and I have both been diagnosed with PCOS about 5 years ago. We both suffer from the weight gain, irregular periods and in mycase long periods of time with none at all. I have 4 kids already and found out after my last baby that I had PCOS. My sister got married last year after being a single mom of 1 for 8 years. They have been trying for a baby and had problems concieveing etc. She started on the chlomid I think at the beginning of this year and hasn't had any side effects at all. She went for her check up a few weeks ago and they said her eostrogen levels were still low so had just put her on a higher dose of the chlomid. A week later she discovered that she is now pregnant.

Just remember to push for what you want and need. I am having to do this myself as the doctors seem to want to brush me under the rug as I don't want anymore kids. Just remember they work for you not the other way round.

Stay positive I know it's hard but just keep going and I'm sure it will allcome together. You also have age on your side, my sister is 32 so there is still hope. xxx

I'm 21 and my periods haven't been right since I had my first one they have always been spaced out, I consulted with a doctor every 6months or so and the have been adamant that it was just down to my age and they shrugged me of saying my periods would get closer together as I get older and now 3weeks away from my 22nd birthday and I’ve not had one in 24months. My partner and I both went in to see my doctor and had to lie and say we were trying to conceive for them to take my concerns seriously, that was back in April 2013 and we have been waiting 4months to be told what I had already consider it to be PCOS, my ovaries are covered in cysts. I’m so scared because I long to be a mum I always have but not so young. I want to build my working life before I settled down to have children but after finding out yesterday that I have PCOS and been offered the Chlomid drug which is meant to help me ovulate with a greater chance of conceiving but I am concerned that if I wait and then have children I might miss my chance to conceive naturally…I feel emotionally dried about it and everyone is easy enough to say it will all be fine and supporting me but I don’t know what to do..?xx

    Hi there,

I'm 26 years old and this year was finally diagnosed with PCOS. I have always had irregular periods since they started when I was 14, although never really thought about it back then. When I was 16 I went on the pill, which obviously regulated everything, and I didn't really start thinking about it again until 5 years ago when I got married and we decided to try for a baby. Things were difficult at the time, and although my GP referred onto the fertility clinic it turned out it wasn't the right time for us and I went back on the pill. I came off it again 18 months ago, and after a year of difficulty trying I visited my GP. The GP I saw told me to come back in another 18 months! He said that due to my age they don't usually worry about fertility problems. I'm so glad I asked for a second opinion! I saw a different GP who after several tests confirmed I have PCOS and referred me onto a fertility clinic. 3 weeks ago I had a laporoscopy to check that my tubes are OK and that the ovaries are all intact - they did find some endometriosis which was removed but they did confirm that I am ovulating - albeit unregularly - its nice to know its happening! I do experience some annoying hair growth around my chin which gets shaved off very promptly! I's also noticed that the hair on my legs grows back very quickly. My weight is an issue for me and it always has been, although in the last 4 months I've managed to lose 16 lbs which is just over a stone. MY consultant at the clinic said there may be some medication I can go on the make my ovulation more regular but in order to get that under the NHS I need to be at a BMI of 30 or less, my current BMI is 32.44 so I've got just over a stone to lose before they will consider me.

Anyway that's my story - keep pushing for what you want and you will get it - I'm hoping I will get pregnant soon!
