Just diagnosed and have questions about symptoms and gabapentin

Hi everyone, I was officaly diagnosed with fibro just a few days ago but I have suffered for years. My Biggest complaint at the moment is pain in my hands and no strength in them at all, I cant even open a chip bag. the other complaint is my neck pain. OUCH im so sick of the neck pain, always leads to migraines!  The doctor wants me to take gabapentin but im very afraid of the side effects. Im worried bout being cranky and gaining weight with it. Im a very laid back person and nothing upsets me and im very thin and want to stay that way. plus I have Kidney disease and IC and am worried about that as well.   What kind of symptoms do you all have with this and how does the medication affect you?

    Hi Diddy c I am unable to take any form of pain relief as I am alergic to opoids. I have pains in my hands and for the past 2 months have had constant pain in my neck. Migrains headaches are fibro symptoms I have constant headaches. My gp tried me on every pain med I reacted badly to them all gabapentin is the 1st one I tried. Our weight tends to go up down with fibro.  Fibro has all different symptoms its based on wide spred pain. dizzyness, tinnitus ibs fibro fog sensitive to light sounds smells migrains headaches speech problems tingling hands feet balance issue back pain leg pain sore throat earache numbness depression anxiety there are many more. symptoms fibro affects us all diffrently in the severity of it, symptoms vary in us all to how severe they are and how long the symptom last. costocondritus is another symptom [chest pain]. any chest pain should always be investicated by gp just incase its anything more serious. Their is as yet no cure for fibro.

      Kaz 40. Thank you for getting back to me. Yes I have wide spread pain and sometimes my kidney disease kicks my tail, the IC I usually have a handle on it. I take pain meds very seldom and when I do its usually half a dose, they make me sick too.

    Hi DiddyC,

    I suffer from the same symptoms and I went to see a migraine specialist and she explained that 99% of her patients have migraines and fibro.

    she has helped me get rid of my headaches completely with imitrex.

    But there are also different relaxing therapy available and different migraine medicine and stiff neck is the first sign I have, I guess you too. That's whe. You have to take action. My Dr. Also started me on preventative medicine before I could just take the imitrex. Please see a headache specialist and see what medication works for you. I had migraines for 3 months straight everyday so I know your pain. It is treatable and there are many different methods. I'm not sure about the Kidney Disease but your Dr. will know if any of the meds affect the kidneys. I also have taken lyrica and gabapentine I believe the gabapentine.is less harmless than lyrica. You can fight this! I have had fibro for 3 years and I'm still very sick but you have to be your own advocate, don't let anyone take your rights away. Also, there are pain Dr. Out there that don't believe fibro is real, find out in advance before seeing Dr. happened to me twice! Good luck and when in doubt check this site, I have found some wonderful information about this terrible disease and I'm so sorry you just got diagnosed. Praying for you🙏🏻

      I take maxalt for my migraines and wow its fantastic but its a new one for me, maxalt is the one and only mg medication I have found that works for me. imatrex makes my throat close and blood pressure spike. I have hypotension and when it goes up i feel like death.

      I seen a pain doctor in the past about migriaines and he wanted to do botox and i don't feel good about that so I didn't do it.   I have really tried to hold it together but it gets harder and harder.

      you see I use to be so active, I showed Arabian horses, hiked, i was heavy into martial arts, i was a fitness trainer and just so active, when I was told I had Medullary sponge kidney disease and interstital cystitis things changed for me. I have always sufferd with migraines but I pushed through them the best I could but this kidney disease really got to me. these days I have pain all over my body seems like all the time. Pain pills make me sick and give me rebound migraines so i just feel in pain all the time.  I hold a pretty positive outlook on life, I sing at chruch and write music, play piano when my hands don't hurt.

      I am just so worried about this gabapentine and its side effects. especially the wieght gain. I am 5 5 and 119 lbs I sure don't want that to change, I have faught to staly slim all my life, I can't imagin letting go now just for a what iff pill.  ugh
