Just diagnosed...have some questions...very confused

I am 33 years old and have just been diagnosed with LS.  I also have been diagnosed with vitilgio.  I really have no symptoms other than loss of color and a little bit of fusing of my minora to majora.  The doctor prescribed me Clobetasol to use twice a day and then he said we will monitor it and eventually use it twice a week.  Since I have not experienced pain with sex and my opening is good he told me to continue having sex.  I have really read nothing but horror stories online.  The doctor made it out like I will use this cream and it should control the LS.  I know this a life long diagnosis and there is no cure.  My question is...will my LS progress even with treatment?  Plus, what is a flare up?

Hello Melissa, I agree at first you feel very down about LS & I'm 65 and have had it for over 8 years. It flairs up sometimes and then I get tears or sores. My doctor prescribed me HYdromol in a big tub. You use it to wash or as a shower gel on your private parts & it can be used all over if you wish. It is a mild soap and also a barrier cream. I lash it on underneath evry time I pee as this stops the stinging. You can wash off with water after you wipe and then gently dry ( I use makeup remover pads as they are unperfumed) I find toilet tissue can sometine cause more pain , so be careful what toilet tissue you buy. Ones with aloevera always affect me in a bad way - surprisingly ! Never use any scented bubble baths or soap - just simple soap. You might find you get other autoimmune type illnesses. I now also drink a probiotic yougrt drink every day as some say the gut can be a culprit. I don't know if this is correct ?? But I think it should do me good - I spoke to my doctor about this & he said try it - it won't do any harm. I use a steriod cream called mometasone Furate 0.1 % - I used to have betnovate but my doctor changed it as I kept getting little sores - maybe I had been on it too long ? Do go to your doctor evry 6 months  or so for them to check it too. Don't suffer in silence. Best Wishes x

I feel the same way as you. I am waiting on my bioposy and very worreid about having sex now and in the future. I didnt know there was any thing wrong until I went to the Docs about Thrush that just would not go and came away with the news I most likely have LS. My Doc said I just need to carry on as normal. Finding it quite hard though.

I am exactly where you are now. I am still trying to accept this and have no idea what the future holds. I am still trying to understand exactly what it is. Everyday I have a new question.

Yes I have a new question every day too. It is very hard not to become consumed by it all. I have started researching Drs that specialise in LS. I feel my GP can only take me so far and if this is life long I want to been seen by a professional who is researching the effects. I had a Bioposy on Thurs but havent had any problems with that and it didnt hurt as much as I thought.
