just diagnosed with colon cancer

I was just diagnosed with colon cancer yesterday. I am scared to death. I had no idea, I was told I had a fissure and have been suffering for a year. Went to a gastro doctor he set up a colonoscopy, then he sent me to a surgeon for a hemmoroid and colon surgeon told me I had a fissure, gave me medicine and told me to cancel colonoscopy, so I did. When I still had pain I went back to gastro doctor and told him to set up colonoscopy,, yesterday I was told I have colon cancer and NO fissure. I am so mad and so upset. Anyone have anything to help me out mentally and physically. Thank you

First and foremost, I apologize you are going through this rough time - but keep your head up and just remember to breath. I know it is hard to do, but try not to worry. It is like a rocking chair - it gives you something to do, but doesn't get you anywhere...

Did your doctor tell you what stage your cancer is? Do they have a plan of attack? Was it simply a polyp that was removed that was cancerous??

Thank you for your words of hope. No, it wasn't a polyp removed, it was a full mass or tumor... I didn't ask the stage of it, I was in such shock, but I doctor has already told me I need Radiation and chemo... it is a full plan doctor does. First an MRI to see where the tenacles from the mass has traveled, then Radiation and Chemo. It is going to be a long haul, but I want to live. Thanks for writng to me.

You are angry, confused & scared, like most people on this forum when we were first told, but we are hear to tell the tale. But you have to try and be strong & focused now so you get the information you need from your Doctor & Specialist. You should be writing down your questions and doing your own research. For example

Why was it diagnosed as a fissure? What went wrong?

    What stage is the cancer?

    What size is the tumour?

Talk me through what happens next?

    What treatments are available?

How quickly do things need to happen?

What help can I get (eg Macmillan)

Etc, etc it will come to you as you have the discussion and do the research.

    Good luck and stay positive!
