Just diagnosed with MC

My 4 year old son has just been diagnosed with MC and I didn't realise how awful if can actually be until I came home from the doctors and did some research - I was told that it might be a good idea not to share towels but that he was fine to be around other children and even to go swimming! (now i'm not so sure about the swimming and we definitely will be having seperate towels).

Where do I go for the treatments that you suggest - can you buy them over the counter? I have heard of tea tree oil but i wouldn't know it which form to use it.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

    Hi There.

My 8 yr old daughter developed what I thought were a couple of skin tags on her neck about 6 plus months ago, she then got a couple of other spots near her eyes! I took her to the GP as I thought they were spreading and the first 2 had become large and very prominent. My GP thought they were warts and said he could freeze them off but didn't like doing that to children under 12yrs as it was distressful. He refered me to another GP who said there were molluscum contagiosum which I had never heard of! She said do nothing they will go away on their own in a few months!. (She didn't tell me not to share towels or anything).

So, I explored the internet for advice. If they go away on their own then why, after 7 months was my daughter getting more and more spots? The original ones were getting bigger, and more cropped up quickly. This became stressful for my daughter at school, they ARE after all infectious! She started holding her hand over her spots and it upset me a lot.

Wanting to be pro-active I armed myself with info. One report I read from a UK Dermatolagist suggested upping immune boosting foods and extra vitamins - so I bought childrens A.C.E.D. one a day vitamins (my daughter isn't good at vegetables) I gave her her own towel to keep in her room away from the bathroom. and then as suggested I treated the horrid spots with BETADINE paint on lotion. I had to get this online as Tesco chemist said they dont stock that! It does have iodine in it which it perhaps why but on the box it says suitable for over 3 yrs. (I ordered it from Expresschemist.co.uk - they are in Brighton) It cost 1.75.

I applied this yellow lotion at night every night for 2 weeks, after squeezing out the cheesy white infectious pus. Not nice , but if you don't get this out then the infection is still there. You do need to be very careful when doing this ,I used disposable gloves and only touched her skin through a tissue. After 6 weeks she has one small shrunken tag and I treat it twice a week.

I worry that more spots are lurking under the skin as these little blighters take a long time to erupt - but I will treat them quickly before they get as big . Hope this helps. I have 4 children and this is the first time I have seen this horrid complaint!

    Cheers

hi i just found out about molluscum. At first i thought i had herpes because my pubic hair area was covered. I went to my local GUM department and thats where i found out what it actually was. I felt so relieved that it wasnt what i suspected. The Doctor was really helpful sow were the nurses. They gave me some cream which i have to apply 2 a day for 3 days then have a 4 day break and start the treatment again its my first day since i started the treatment so hopefully it will eliminate the problem so all you sufferes i symphathise and i know what your going through.

Hi! My 12 year old son started getting these (although I had NO idea what they were) on the inside of his thigh. They were there for a long time and he would show me worried about them. i told him they were just skin bumps and would go away. After his persistance, I took him to the Dr and she diagnosed him with MC! Never heard of it, she made it like they were nothing, didn't mention anything about not swimming or not sharing towels!!!!! So went home thinking they would go away. When they started to spread (up both bottom cheeks and down his legs) we went back to her and she again made like they were common and nothing to worry about but let me see a dermatologist. HE even acted like they were nothing and AGAIN neither dr mentioned NOT to share towels etc...!!! ONLY found that information out when I searched online and began informing myself of this condition. We purchased DUOFILM and are currently applying it daily and they seem to be drying up (turning red too which the Dr said it was his body fighting the condition) we will see how it does. So glad they are on an area where no one sees them. The first Dr seems to think he got them maybe from a public restroom? We have no idea!!!Blessings, Pam<><
