Just diagnosed with type II

I was just diagnosed with type II yesterday. This was confirmed by a blood test igg. My results came in at 8. Does I am currently working through an outbreak but I don't think it's my first. It stated about 10 days ago on my shaft and just as it was about done and al healed I got another in my underwear region about 2 inches above my pe is. Does the high test number indicate I'm having an outbreak... Is there any tie between how high the number is and how long I've had this. I've been sexually active over the past year with a couple different people. About 6 months ago I met someone and we are now in a relationship. I'm just trying to figure out whether this is something I had prior to meeting her or if I got it from her. She just took her blood test today so I guess if she is negative obviously it is just me. Is it really possible to have sex practically everyday for 6 months unprotected and never pass it on to your partner?

With a number that high, you've had it for at least 3 months, possibly longer. There's no way you would score that high in less that 2 weeks of infection, that's for sure. It could be that your current gf gave it to you. Guess you'll find out soon enough. Yes, it is possible to have lots of unprotected sex and not pass it on. Depends on various factors.

whats the mean a number result of 8..is that stated how long it got infected?is that possible to know when the hsv in the system....

The number is from the way IgG test results are reported. It can only be used to loosely work out whether someone is newly infected or not. New infections don't produce sufficient IgG antibodies until around 3 months, maybe 2 months in some cases. A score of 8 is considered quite high, so definitely not a very new infection, but how old the infection is cannot be determined, other than that it is likely 3+ months old.

If I had a score of 6; how long could I have possibly have been infected with type 2?

Unfortunately, IgG index values can only distinguish between *very* recent infections (in conjunction with a positive swab for herpes) or pre-existing infections of over ~3 months (so, from relatively recent to who knows when!). After ~3 months, it is impossible to read anything more into the index values, as full IgG antibody production would have occurred by then and will continue thereafter for life. A score of 6 is on the high side, so not a "very recent" infection.

I would never say never, but I would say, yes, that would be most unlikely. Most people don't start to test positive for IgG until at least 2-3 months, 3+ months for sure, so to already test well above positive with a 6 is not likely a <4 week infection. week="">

Yes it is possible to have sex unprotected and she never got it or she got it and either never had an outbreak so she is a carrier. You said u think this is  not your first outbreak u think. why do u think that how long do u think u ve had it. just for u to know heavy sex can trigger an outbreak.if she is positive it does not mean she gave ii to u. Im not sure abt this buti think there is a test to know if this was your 1st out break or if u had it for long.

There is no test designed for that purpose. Even the IgG test can only be very loosely used to determine when a person was infected, and only within a very short window at that. That's why when a person is swabbed positive for herpes, they should immediately get an IgG test done for baseline purposes. At least that's what I did and would recommend!

Testing for IgG is useful at the time of a suspected first outbreak for baseline purposes. Since you are past your first outbreak and have already tested positive by pcr, it doesn't matter now. The window period I was talking about is gone.

Unless I'm mistaken and your first outbreak was just very recently.
