Just Diagnost with herpes. Does my bf have it too?

I went to my doctor yesterday because I had some pain and bumps down there under my clitoris hood. As soon as my Gyn looked she was shocked and grossed out and asked have I ever been diagnosed with herpes. I said no she told me " well this is herpes" she took a culture and I will find out for sure on Wednesday but I don't understand how I can have it but my boyfriend don't. He recently went to do a blood test and his results were <1:10(1:10) that's negative correct ? He told me that everything had came back good and we had nothing to worry about. Was he lying to me ? Did he have it before me?

First, which test did he get? There are two common blood tests igg and igm. Igm is useless and isn't recommended. Igg is the one to get always. Another thing, was he tested for hsv 1 or hsv 2 or both? Next question, has he ever had any cold sores? Did he perform oral sex? Your results will help more when you get them but for now I'm going based on what you've said.

The test was igm blood test. He never had any cold sores and yes he has performed oral sex.

He needs to retest igg as the igm is no good! He could have hsv 1. It wouldn't hurt for him to get tested for both but with an igg test. I say that because if he has oral hsv 1 and performed oral on you shortly before your outbreak then it is possible that's how you contracted the virus. Did your dr perform a blood test on you? If you can get one asap that would be great!

After reading this I know for a fact that I have it. I have sores that burn and my gyn just did a culture because I thought I have a yeast infection but turns out I have herpes instead. I had sex with him in protected 2 weeks ago because he got everything checked and his doctor said he was clean. I wish I was a little more educated before. I don't even think he knows he has herpes we are both really young. Idk how I'm going to tell him this after we thought everything was okay. And I also thought when doctors did a full culture that ment herpes too so I could have had it before him or he could have at this point it just really sucks to be me.

Yes it does suck especially that doctors don't include hsv in the standard std panel based on the CDC recommendation not to. I mention you getting a igg blood test because that is the best way to get a more clear picture. Let's say you test positive by culture...if you test positive by blood also then you've had it for at least three months or more (it takes the body approx 3 months to build up enough antibodies to be detected by blood) but if you test negative by blood (and culture was positive) it would suggest a recent infection...less than 3 months.
