Just don't know what treatment to go for? Please help

After 18 months of what I thought was acne getting worse and worse I finally got an appointment with a dermatologist and have been diagnosed with acne rosacea. His given my oxytetracycline to take for 6 weeks but I keep reading that it's likely if this works I will have to stay on it. I'm dreading the side effects as I suffer quite badly from thrush with any antibiotic. Plus im37 and would like to start a family ASAP and know that I can't take this medication then. I feel like Im at a crossroads and I'm getting so stressed. The roseacea is so bad it's pustular on my cheeks, forehead and chin and everyday I wake up and hate what i see staring back at me.im literally a shadow of my former self it's effected my self confidence so much. Any advice on natural treatments? I need some hope.

Try a couple of drops of 100% tea tree oil mixted in with your moisture twice a day. It helped me so much with rosacea, at the very least it will be good for the acne.

      Hi Shelley

I am on day 5 of tea tree oil treatment for Rosacea. Days 1 and 2 I had a thread like discharge from pores (yuk - sorry!!). Days 3,4 and 5 no threads. Do you have any ideas on this? I think I expected demodex mite to expel much more than this. Sorry for graphic detail.

      Hi Jean.

I am thinking of trying the tea tree oil. How do you apply it? In your moisturizer as Shelley?

      Amount?

Which brand, are they all of the same strength you think?

Too bad we're not allowed to edit or remove our own comments on this site. Sometimes, as now, I repeat words whitout noticing before too late, ugh.

      Hi here,

I live in Malta so it  limiting what is available over here (TTO). I bought a tiny full strength bottle, 10 euros, and put it on neat, although it is recomended to dilute it with other oils to start with.  I  have skin like leather (I have had rosacea 30+ years) so I was OK. Do go to the website TTO and see other comments before you start using it. Best of luck.

I have not experienced threads of discharge you describe, just a feeling of relief and gradual healing.

I just bought the drug store brand of 100% tea tree oil. I dab about 3 drops on my face, then dab my moisturizer on (which currently is Cereva Lotion) and spread both around. I've heard about diluting Tea tree oil with other oils, but I chose not to add another ingredient (like olive oil) that my face may or may not react well to.

I never found tea tree oil to be too strong or burn, even though my skin was really fragile, but maybe that's just me.

The thing I swear by is calamine lotion.  I was where you are now so I know how upsetting it is.  Now when I get an outbreak, or even just the flushing, I slather calamine lotion on at night.  It takes the heat out right away and makes me feel so much more comfortable, and I swear it's the only thing that helps keep the bumps to a minimum and dries them up much more quickly.  It still takes several weeks (or longer) for them to go away completely but it starts to reduce them right away and seems to keep me from getting more.  That and Clinique yellow mineral powder to cover the redness during the day is all I use now.  Since using the calamine lotion I haven't had any outbreaks even close to as bad as my initial one a year ago. Good luck!

    Hi Naomi

I hope this advice will help. Do some research on demodex face mite as people with Rosacea have been found to have much more than the normal amount. Tea tree oil kills these blighters, although you may have to wait 4-6 weeks for total erradication. You will see an almost immediate relief from the burning. I know you feel alone but help is out there. Have a look at the Rosacea society  website, Im sorry you are so upset but you will get lots of support.  Best of luck.

I  had YAG laser treatment 4 days ago and my Rosacea marks are even redder.

Is anybody out there who can tell me what is going on? The test patch after 2 days and my red mark was completely gone. I am starting to worry

Hi Naomi.  I am 44 and saw a GP a few months ago and asked if he thought I had Rosacea.  He said it was possible and gave me Rozex which made no difference.  I have had this for a few years and no one ever seemed interested in it.  Finally, I saw another nurse yesterday who looked surprised as soon as I walked into the room and asked me to wait for a GP.  As soon as I walked into the room he said, "Oh my God, you can't go on like that.  We need to get this sorted".  Mine is severe.  People and children have been commenting on it and that is what has started to bother me.  I haven't been out for a couple of days this week and since I am at home with a 2 year old (husband works away), that is just not practical to say the least!  Anyway, the GP yesterday prescribed a couple of months of Oxytetracycline and is referring me to a Dermatologist.  I have to have bloods done also and go back and see GP in 4 weeks.  So, I know exactly how you feel.  I have taken my first tablet this morning.  My 2 year old has just started playgroup and so I should start to get a few hours to myself during the week now (I was made redundant a few months ago) and so I have joined a gym.  But, now, I'm just dreading everyone at the gym looking at my face!  I guess I just have to ignore them.  I have redness all over my nose towards my cheeks, my forehead and eyebrows with large spots/ blisters.  What do you use in terms of make-up/ coverage?  Good luck with yours.  Keep us updated.  I will do the same.  I will also try the teatree thing although I thought I had read that it was too strong for Rosacea and could make it worse so that surprised me on here.

      Hi Rhian

yeah my dermatologist prescribed oxytetracycline but I decided not to take them. I think it's meant to be a good treatment tho. I'm glad there a people like me out there. Sounds like you have had a rough time without having to cope with the roseacea on top. But at least like me your going in the right direction.

ive been using the tea tree oil in my moisturiser and there is some improvement. I have also been to a IPL consulatation and just discussing this way forward with my dermatologist next week as personally prefer. Not to take tablets.

I was recommended by the lady who did a patch test of laser treatment to use bare minerals make up as it's literally made of natural ingredients. I will be honest the coverage isn't great but it does seem to be easier to remove and not clinging to my pores which may have also contributed to the slight improvement. I've also used clinique anti redness which does have better coverage but does stick to my pores but you may be different.

yes keep me updated and I will you. Probably going to take time which is frustrating but maybe we will both experience some improvement soon.
