      Hi billy,

You don't day what stage of kidney disease your at x there are five x I have stage three and have been the same for the last 14 years. Kidney disease doesn't get better but can be stable for a long time with correct medication. My doctor thinks it is very unlikely that mine will get any worse and in fact this is usually the case with a lot of people. It also depends if you have any other health issues.

Hi Louise. Hope you don't mind me asking what your gfr is? I've had stable CKD for about 8 years and my gfr has varied, being 58 once and up and down but always staying in 3a. Recent bloods showed gfr of 45 and two weeks later I'm down to 39. Doc says not to worry but I can't help it. Having more bloods in three weeks and trying hard to do the right thing!  Just felt the need to talk to someone in stable 3!  So hope everyone does well.  X

Hi,in reply to your question my gfr is around the 50 mark. It did at one stage drop to 40 bit after a repeat blood test it went back up. We since discovered this may be because I was taking Ibrobrufen which is a big no no with ckd. It's easy to say don't worry I know but your being looked after so let them do the worrying.

Hi Louise. Thanks for your response. Got locked out as I put wrong password in! It helps to know you've been told you may not get any worse and I hope all Ok from now on. I use Ibuprofen from time to time for back problem but I won't from now on! I also use Olbas Oil as a rub in but found this may affect kidney function. I use Pernaton Gel too and trying to find out if this is ok for kidneys. I am still under my GP who says no need for referral unless gfr falls to 30 and wondering if this is the norm? My GP just says not to worry as my gfr may increase next time and in meantime trying to do all I can not to damage my little kidneys any further. All the best. Jan

    Hi Billy,

Like louise says its depends on what is causing your CKD and I would also agree that it can stay at the same stage.  You need to make sure your blood pressure is well controlled and you don't eat salt or processed food (ready meals and take aways) other than that don't make any changes unless you are told to do so.  Tell your wife she will support you, you don't have to go through this alone.  At the end of it all if you do need dialysis its not so bad, I will let you know about the transplant part when I have had mine!.  None of it is so bad once you get your head round it.
