Well had 1 seizure before I went in and then 3 while I was in the emergency room. They wouldn't give me anything till after the third one they said bac was to high to administer ativan. They waited till it was lower to do it. After the third seizure. An hour later they sent me home said I was medically cleared because my vitals were ok. No prescriptions. I was there for 12 hours. I can't get in with my GP till Thursday. The doctors advice in the emergency room was to just keep drinking till I see my GP thursday. Such a same. So here I am drunk again.

Are you US based? I ask that because I would be shocked if that happened in the UK.

Hey rhgb yes I'm us based I've been admitted in the hospital once never had a seizure at that time. They said because they were short seizures and vitals are ok the doctor released me. Funny thing is I never saw one doctor just nurses

Us based, ignore the previous post then. I thought US was more switched on and advanced than uk. Suppose it depends on the state. Not really sure what to say other than I really hope you get the help you need. And fast x

The US works very much on a private system, via insurance, with free healthcare very much as a last resort.

If you have lots of money, it works very well for you, not so much money, then not so well.

Yes, it does depend obviously on the state in the US...because I was not let go...no way....I think this is appauling. ;(

Totally agree with RHGB, this is totally unacceptable. If you are having seizures you need immediate medical intervention, can you elaborate on how much you drink, what you drink and when?

You should not have been allowed out of the hospital after 3 seizures.

Do drink your normal amount/near enough or your risk another seizure - my alcohol team told me the same thing, it's dangerous to stop completely. Joanna will respond and will offer you an alternate route since your medical institution has failed you dramatically.

Joanna helped me a great deal, she showed me another route when I felt there was no hope. I have since been able to acquire medication from my alcohol team after a long slog. There is hope.

Hope you are well Jasonspencer, keep posting and checking in, we are all here to help each other. You've obviously been treated badly but that doesn't mean it has to be a catalyst to a worse binge, the fact you posted here shows you are looking for help and there are other options.

    Take care.

I'm 34 didn't really start drinking till 23. By 24 heavily. Small bottles of vodka then the 750 ml bottles then the half gallons. I've been sober for 6 months and one week I started again. Well I was waisted when the first seizure at home happened. I only had not drunk for 2 hours I don't remember it happening i don't remember the ambulance ride their and I guess I slept the first few hours in the er. Woke up with oxygen and only had one bag of fluids. Well the 3 times I tried to sleep in their as soon as I fell asleep they started again I felt them this time but snapped out of it. Pressed the call button for the nurse told her and all she did was put protection on the rails of the bed. Doctor never came in once. Supposedly I came in foaming at the mouth and they had to lay me sideways to avoid me swallowing my tongue or choking on vomit. Just got in touch with my doctor 5 minutes ago. When he is off at 5 he is bringing me 90 klonopin to take 3 times a day as long as I stop drinking once he gets here to avoid the anxiety and most importantly any more seizures. He's disgusted with the the hospital. I've taken it before for panic disorder I used to drink vodka from morning till I passed out. Stopped for 6 months when I was admitted for a week in the same hospital and it only took 1 week for this to happen never had seizures before

Thank you, BK!  I really appreciate your kind words.

Jason, please read this short link about a medical method to help you overcome your drink problems.  It may or may not be for you, but there is a good chance that you have never heard of it before!

      https://patient.info/health/sinclair-method-for-alcohol-use-disorder

The medication you would need in the States is called naltrexone.  It has been approved for use in alcohol use disorder by the FDA since 1994, but very few medical professionals tend to prescribe it because it is generic now (meaning any company can make it) so there is no profit in it and there are no pharma reps knocking on the doctors door to inform them about it.

The prescribing instructions are to take it every morning to help lessen cravings.  However, since the medication was approved over 120 clinical tests have shown that it works better by taking it one hour prior to drinking and only when you may drink.

Discuss it with your doctor, and let us know.  Some doctors in the US are aware of this method and some aren't.

When you have read that, also google C Three Foundation.  This is based in Florida and California and helps to support people using this method and to educate doctors about it.  C Three Foundation is not for profit so any information or resources you may use to talk to your doctor about it are completely free.

I wish you well and hope that you will be in a position to get well very soon.

As a Dr he should know you need more than Ativan...the Ativan will definetly help..but you probably need to be hydrated.  He should call that damn hospital and tell them to admit you.  GOD...I'm disgusted.

OMGosh...I'm horrified to hear this and really feel for you, having been let down and put in danger this way. You must be terrified. Is there anyone who can stay with you until Thursday. You need support. It's the kind of thing that should be headline news but we are always too ashamed and want to remain anonymous so the public never get to hear that this is going on.

Ive been hospitalised on several occasions and chucked out hours later and in the middle of night. Though luckily the one time I had seizures due to an alcohol and baclofen overdose, they kept me in for a week.

This is unbelievable and my heart goes out to you.

I hope Paul or Joanna can help. Stay in touch with us as we do care.. C x

I'm so pleased to hear that a doctor is visiting you this evening with meds to help you for a few days. And glad Joanna has explained that there is meds like naltrexone to help you recover long term.

Wishing you good health and happiness in the future. Don't give up on giving up the poison x
