Just had a dislocation!

I have THR on both hips, left hip15 years ago, right one 7. I was 49, and much fitter, when I had the first one done, and it's been fine. Unfortunately, my left hip dislocated a week ago when I bent forward to pick something up. I was laid on the garage floor for almost two hours, (in excruciating pain), before an ambulance could attend to take me to A&E. This was at 8pm and I didn't go down to theatre until 11am the following morning. I was told that it was very difficult for them to get my hip back in place. I still feel battered and bruised. As you all know, this is a very traumatic experience, and I am shocked at how many of you have had more than one dislocation, you poor things!  It's freaked me out, and made me so scared to move about, which I know is not good. I am due to go on a cruise in two months, and wondering if I should cancel.

I do hope that you are all keeping well and have had no more problems.

Sending (((hugs)))

Sorry, just reading back, I should have said my right hip dislocated, not my left.

This is the ultimate fear. And only bending down. I guess when you've both replaced the distribution of weight changes and is far more fragile. Well it's a warning to us all. I am in the process of checking all countries and types of procedures before I get the other one operated. Also wish at time of diagnosis BEFORE bone on bone, we were not offered some intermediate treatment and advice. I had no idea 10 years ago of the "bilateral progressive Osteo arthritis" repercussions. No doctor recall, could have possibly had the joint cleaned and shaved arthroplasty fir example. I know there was space at my last consultation for example; makes you wonder if they sit waiting to get their chainsaws out and aren't interested in anything lesser. It does seem daft to sit and wait for the inevitable. There must be interim measures available. Knowledge is armour andi could kick myself (but couldnt manage hard enough, so feeble is my operated side).  Take your cruise but no deck in windy weather and hold those railings tight when doing stairs.  In fact take the lift. But try the recumbent bike in the gm. V gd and strengthening. Do the clam exercise to strengthen butt muscle. My butt has all but(t)! atrophied

Please do go on your cruise.  When I dislocated my hip 9 months after having a THR we were about to go round Scotland for three weeks.  A week after the dislocation, I got in the car and just got on with it.  I was careful but had the most amazing holiday ever - the weathe was wonderful, Andy won Wimbledon  and we had an absolutely brilliant time, and I drove over 1,000 miles - my husband did the other 1,000 miles!!  Enjoy and have a great time.
