Help ! I am 6. Months post op partial knee replacement . Tonight I fell right on my knee , the very side I had surgery. It hurt but not crazy bad . I'm icing and elevating as I write this . I am petrified I did some damage . Has anyone ever falling on their operated knee . Any fall is serious I know. Dang I'm so mad at myself. I've been bragging about how happy i am with the surgery . I've been so careful. Stopped wearing my high heels even . Had a very small wedge heel on and wondering if I can't even wear those .
Praying I'm ok .((

I didn't fall but I hit it real hard on the corner of my bed post. I wanted to cry but I didn't. It was bleeding from the incision too. I go to the doctor tomorrow and I'm going to tell them about it. You are doing the right thing with the ice. Watch it for the next few days and if it doesn't get better call the doctor.

Thank you so much for your reply . So concerned. Good advice , I will watch it . My son said " Mom you have like titananum in there it's stronger than before the operation". Lol not exactly but he has a point right ?
I really hope you are ok ! It's so scary we go through so much and then to think of a set back is just a horrible thought . Feeling for you !

I know the feeling. I went back to work 10 wks. after 1st TKR and promptly fell in my classroom! Of course it was my knee that had the TKR. I went home and iced and elevated my leg. That next week I saw my Dr. I didn't go in right away because my knee wasn't really over sore or swollen. But oh, the bruises (and a black eye!). My Dr. checked my knee out and said no damage. I don't know if that helps, but at least you know you're not alone!!😊

Hi Sharron
Thank you !! And yes It helps to know others have fallen . It's so unsettling when it happens.
I was thinking maybe I would call and see Doc next week . Think I'll feel better to have it checked.
Guess we can never let our guard down . Have to be so careful.
Take care !

As far as damaging the joint the chances are low but bruising the soft tissue is a different story..keep up the icing a rest but do the muscle tightening exercises only and gently. I fell the day after my revision and twisted the femur into at a 20° angle. I had to have a hip to knee plate inserted and held in by 8 screws but did no damage to the prosthesis. A year later I passed out due to a urinary tract infection and low blood pressure. I made a 3 point landing on my knees and forehead on a hardwood floor
I split my head open to the tune of 6 or 7 stitches. About 3 weeks later the knee started to hurt and then became very painful. This time not so lucky.....I developed a staph and had many problems since
Just watch for the knee getting extremely hot and any kind of unusual discoloration. Report these changes immediately to your dr. If you feel the need go to an emergency room but x rays are about all they can do as they can't MRI a prosthesis as all they get is a black blob. If you are hurting some sort of anti inflammatory can help.
No doubt, you are going to be uncomfortable for several days.

Thanks for the reply ! I never knew MRI showed up like that . That's not good . This morning I'm in pain . It's not too bad but i have full day ahead . Wish I could just rest .
You have really been through it all , makes my fall seem like a walk in the park .
I'll will keep watching it for the signs you said . Oh how I hope it's ok . I'm actually out of town so will have to be dealing with airports tomorrow. That'll be fun I'm sure.
Take care Old Fat Guy

Well, they tell us that the new knee is probably tougher than the original, so here's hoping that yu haven't actually done any damage to the joint. of course, it will be sore because of the possible damage to muscles, tissue . .whatever, but hopefully that will heal and you'll be as right as rain. i fell about a month ago, and right on the operated knee. it came up about the size of chicken's egg . . . but after a week or so it went down, and there was no prb

Thank you ! This encourages me . I'm in pain but ibuprofen is handling it.
Not getting worse ( don't think ) .
