Just had a root canal to get rid of an abscess. Not getting better. What should I do?

I've gotten hit in the face with the soccer ball quite a few times as I am a goalkeeper. This time, my tooth was hurting really bad and about 3 days later I went into the dentist and said I had an abscess and that I should get it it taken care of soon. I had a root canal and the abscess still seems to be there. What do I do?
