Just had surgery

I just had surgery on Saturday for my frozen shoulder on the right side, I have it on the left too so that surgery will be new year sometime.

My question is, how long does the pain continue. I’ve come out with more pain and less movement than when I went in. Also with a numb thumb that won’t go away.

I’m curious as to people’s  recovery  times to get a better range of movement and less pain.

Also the types of pillows you may have used to help rest the arms at night.

If you had a nerve block it may take a while to wake up. I think I had to sleep on my back...the PT was brutal. They followed me home with a chair that moved my arm up and down to keep my body from freezing up again. Pt was enough to make football players cry and throw punches lol. You have to do it or you won't get range of motion back. I would say it was two to three months.  Good luck.

So sorry to hear you have both shoulders.  I couldn't even imagine.

I too have a numb thumb?  I have an apt with my surgeon this week and I'm going to address it with him.

My pain is all still there, I had MUA while it was still freezing, he said it would help me "get over the hump" sooner.  I'm not too sure about that.  I'm freezing back.  The surgery pain should last a few weeks before it goes away, but mine never did.  I'm in week 4

I sleep in a recliner, that was the only thing that kind of helped... it still doesn't take the pain away, but it helped me get some kind of sleep.

the best of luck to you, I hope you get some relief.

Thanks, yes I’ve been in my recliner for 3 months. It does help but my lower back is killing me now. I just want to use my bed.

The thought of going through this a second time for my other shoulder is horrible. Hopefully I’ll learn something to make the second time easier.

It is hard when you have your right shoulder operated on and the left is doing the work but still in agony from it’s own freezing painful stage.

I’m getting tired and over it.

      Burtpies,

I just went to my PT for my scheduled session, and told him about my thumb... he explained it from all the inflammation, and shortening of everything around the shoulder those nerves get pinched and pulled, It pulled up my first rib to above my clavicle.  to me it felt like an extremely tight trap muscle.

He did a stretch and showed me how to do it at home.  You have to put a thick belt or pillow case on the rib, put across your chest and back and push with the other hand while moving your head side to side... if your in PT tell them about it, have them show you, it actually worked.  it feels better, but he said it's temporary, and to do the stretch every day to help release it.

Had the first surgery on the 9th December it’s now Xmas eve.

Rom is improving which is good, I can sleep in my bed with a special pregnancy pillow to help support my arms and shoulders good but the pain going through each arm into wrists and hands is just as bad if not worse than before. I’m wondering if it might be a separate issue from the fs maybe neuropathy from my t1 diabetes

Anyway still on strong painkillers and struggling.

I go back to the specialist in 2 months to see if we operate on the other shoulder too, let’s hope not but that’s unlikely.

In the meantime I’m broke, can’t work, on social security got bills I can’t pay and if I do apply and get a job what could happen. I just finished a 12 week teaching contract that 9 of the weeks I couldn’t do because of the pain and lack of movement because of  Fs. Difficult situation at the moment.
