Just had vaginal prolapse surgery, best decision ever.

I've just had surgery 2 days ago. The worst part of it was having a catheter as there was blood in the urine sample, so they did an endoscopy. The morphine made me sick and Codine can make you constipated. Be careful about which meds you use. I have a massive stomach ache as I feel so hungry. Apart from that the surgery was fab! I've taken a quick peak and my vagina is looking like it did before childbirth. Tucked back in where it should be. I had trouble going for a bowel movement before and I'd leak if I laughed, coughed or jumped. My third baby was over 9lb and I had damage down below. I went through a defacation proctogram and 6 months of physiotherapy. Having surgery is the best decision I've made. I didn't have the mesh, they stitched it and cut away excess skin. There is no longer an ugly gaping hole there and it doesn't look like I'm giving birth to a cauliflower. I was so proud of it I showed my husband. Don't let anyone put you off this surgery. It's changed my life already.  Go for it girls!!

Understand. I had my rectocele surgery and I feel great. I tell people all the time stop listening to people and get the work done.

What surgery did you have exactly? Was it rectocele/posterior? Or multiple? Etc.,,

It was a tear in the posterior wall. They stitched it to make it stronger, no mesh.

A tear? You mean from childbirth or due to weak muscles? A posterior repair is done for a rectocele prolapse.

yes, it was that. that's what the notes say and when the surgeon told me what the op involved I was high on medication.  Yes, childbirth caused what she called a small rectocele prolapse, or weakening of the wall. Stitches and she cut away the loose skin

It’s really good to hear this. I’m 11 days pre op for posterior repair and vaginal hysterectomy ( womb, cervix and right tube ) I didn’t get any information before or after the op and I know I’m still healing and it’s early days. Did you get a lot of pain in your bottom? It feels like something is stuck up there ( sorry for being so graphic )

yes I did. I think its the bruising. having a bowel movement is a nightmare, but took a laxative. Still bleeding and oozing a bit. The worst part is the pain in my stomach where I am bloated with air, but the laxatives sorted that out too.

This surgery isn't for fools..it takes months to get over and you only need to put a foot wrong and it can all fall..

Rest Rest for the first 6 wks is paramount..even at 12 wks your body only starts to !and scare tissue.listen to your consultant and if he says 6 wks add another 6 on top.. To be safe than sorry.

That's the problem.  I work as a preschool practitioner and my boss wants me back in two weeks. I told her it has to be no lifting for me, but she said don't come back then. I have to be able to lift or she has to do it all. Really p****d off with their attitude tbh. The doctor said 3 to 6 weeks rest. I am that close to handing my notice in

If be off for 12 wks if lifting.. That will cause it to fail hun definitely.

The newly repair is very weak and needs time to get strong. Your health is paramount.

Tell them if You return and can't do the job what is the point. Sounds like they don't have your best interests hun.x

I went back to work light duty after 2 weeks. And at 8 weeks I am just now returning to full time. I am a retail manager so getting back to being on my feet has taken a bit of time. But I am not lifting more than 15 pounds for 6+ months. Keep up the pelvic floor exercises and push your self a little - with out overdoing it.
