Just having some questions

Hi, I am new to this group. I have had herpes for 16 yrs. I got it from my husband when we were dating. He had a cold sore on his lip and we had oral sex. I had a major outbreak and the Dr. just said I had herpes. I have had just a few outbreaks over the past years. My husband never got herpes from me even though we had unprotected sex for 16 years while we were married. So my question is why did my husband never get it from me? He never had sores on his genitals. I am assuming what I have is type 1. So now we are divorced and I am dating a man. He will likely get it from me if we have sex or oral sex. I am just confused as to why my husband never got it!

If negative, the odds of you passing Type 1 by genital to genital contact are still low (usually via oral sex), especially if you have had it for many years. Might be a good idea to test for both types by IgG to confirm your type, just to be sure.

If you do not have it orally, you cannot pass it via giving oral sex. If he gives you oral sex during an outbreak or when you're shedding, he could get it and develop a cold sore. However, if it is Type 1, it luckily recurs and sheds not very often, especially if you've had it for several years.
