Sally....It was actually "outside" influence that directed me to go to the doctor early, because that's when they scheduled it, knowing I was just recovering from surgery.  I wasn't "competeing" with anyone, and only before surgery, did I think I would just fly through recovery, not after surgery.   I took very good care of myself.  My doctor didn't prescribe physical therapy, and they knew I was living alone, and didn't offer for me to go to rehab....so my thoughts were that it was going to be a breeze, and it wasn't.

Right now, I'm looking at possibly two fractures in my surgical side.  I've had pain in the last two months from a vasovagal collapse.  I just blacked out and fell straight backwards and hit my head on a hard surface.  My first statement to the EMTs was that I had a hip implant, believing that would be their foremost concern.  Not only were they not concerned, but the ER doctors weren't either!  They did a CT scan that included the top of my hip, but not down my leg.  The next day, they wanted to do gallbladder surgery, and I refused that.  I later found out I had a concussion after I asked the neurologist I went to due to vertigo.  Nearly two months have passed and I just got into vestibular rehab last week.  I asked the physical therapist if he would evaluate my leg, due to the increasing pain after I was able to finally get up and walk around due to the vertigo going away.  He sent me for xrays, and I just found out last Thursday that the ortho suspects a fracture in the femur and in the ilium crest.  I'm having a bone scan in two days, so if they discover a fracture, that means I've been walking on fractures for two months.  That certainly explains the pain I've been having.

Hi Sam, I feel for you , as you've really and still are having an awful time, however you are right the opmis a major op and really does take its toll on your body and although many many hip ops are done every day all over the world, recovery does take and need to take a long time. I don't know whether anyone could prepare you for this but we all no as hippies how it affects you which is why this site is so good. I too am on my own and my sister came up for 5 days post op to help which I needed or i couldn't have got through. She then set everything up for me so I had what I needed to enable me to survive. I did what I needed but left everything else. I really hope you are on the up now they have found the problem and that they can help you get sorted now.

Thanks Christine.....I'm doing okay.  Just need to use a walker now, until I find out if there is a fracture.  I'm sure it's mostly healed now, if there is one, but I've lost a lot of muscle.  I can't have physical therapy yet, if there are any fractures, so I'm hoping there isn't one.  It's still amazing to me that none of the doctors I saw were concerned about checking to make sure the leg was okay, after a fall like that.  We all have to be pro-active.

I'm glad you're over the worst. I agree we do all have to be pro active but that is difficult if you are in pain and not feeling yourself which is where your first aiders, nurses, doctors etc should be looking for anything and everything.
