I am 59yrs and have had lupus for 20 years. Had to get off Plaquenil because of toxicity. My new Dr is putting me on methotrexate 2.5 X6. I only drink on weekends if all. Was planning to take it on Sat. Night after reading some of these messages. 1.so I can drink 2. To give an extra day to rest if it makes you tire. So I can go to work on Monday. It sas you could loose your hair and gain weight
I am not too worried about my hair because I keep in short anyway. But I am concerned
About the weight gain. Has any one experienced the weight gain
Is it the method that makes you gain or does it just make you hungry so you eat more. Been on prednisone for over 20 years and doing good on the weight. Looking forward to some advise from the experts

I just started the same dose of methotrexate last week for my guttate psoriasis. I take mine Saturday as well. Saturday was fine for me, just a little more sleepy than usual.... but Sunday I woke up and felt pretty crappy. Body aches, stiffness and headache. They warned me of nausea and loss of appetite but I did not throw up and was just as hungry as ever.
I have the same concerns about weight gain so im also very curious to hear the responses you will get.
My Dr did tell me that you're not supposed to drink alcohol while taking MTX tho so I would look into that and discuss it with your Dr.
My best of luck to you on this journey to better health!

I am 54 years old and started MTX about 8 months ago 2.5 x 5. I haven't heard too much about weight gain with this med. I find that losing weight is not as easy, but as far as putting on weight suddenly...No... I have had no hairloss that I have noticed. I take my dose at night as suggested by veterans of MTX. . I do have a mild headache and some nausea the next day. Drinking alot of water helps. I don't drink regularly, so not well versed in the whole alcohol thing. I am sure your body will tell you if the alcohol doesn't sit well. As you get used to MTX the side effects decrease so you might be able to take it on a different day and not ruin your weekend. Good luck and feel better,
Sally

I have just taken my second lot of 4 this morning, my brother in law I was talking to yesterday and he has been on methotrexate for a year he decided to come off it, he got shingles and then a chest infection that took 2 months and 3 lots of anti biotics to go, this stuff is hard core .
I go back to the hospital next week for my first check up after being diagnosed with RA and am thinking I may come off it, my symptoms are not even that bad and besides if it does get really bad then yes fair enough go on this stuff years down the line but surly not yet, in my opinion the side effects that can happen far out way my symptoms
