just returned from seeing surgeon

I have just returned from seeing my surgeon for my 6weeks check up. He said I can drive my car (yipee) can lay on my operated side in bed and don't need a pillow between my legs anymore. The only thing is he said I need to get more confident because I still walk with one stick but hopefully I will be able to do that before long .also saw the other lady there who had surgery the same day asme and she stiLl has a stick so I feel a bit better about that! Just thought I would let you all know😊

That is great news, my 6 week checkup is this Thursday, I am still getting a lot of pain at the back of the operated leg also the groin, went for a walk yesterday without crutches or stick, I got terrible back ache my husband had to go back and get the car.

At the moment I feel Like I will never get back to how I was, fingers crossed In time I will.

Hi Shirley, I go for my six week check on Friday.  I went to physio gym session this morning and I am so stiff and in quite a bit of pain. Not sure if I overdid it or it's just due to building up muscles not used. Feel quite despondent at the moment. Going for lie down in minute but worried when I get up I will have stiffened up even more!  I feel your pain. I think we need to realise that although six weeks is milestone there is still work to be done. Good luck Thursday x

Great news Ruth, I had mine last week and it's so good to know you can drive, lay on your side etc isn't it? Don't worry too much about walking without a crutch you will soon get there. Although I don't use one now for day to day round the house, up and down stairs etc I still take one out with me. It's just a matter of building your confidence and stamina.  You'll soon be walking round in the sunshine and no crutches!

Fantastic news!!!  Glad to see you are not going to be sitting home anymore!!!  A little hint for driving, make sure you give yourself enough room to open the car door wide enough and noone parks too close to you!!!  It's been done to me and i had to ask a complete stranger to pull my car out.....  Thinking about it now, i can chuckle, but at the time, i wasn't happy.  Ginny USA NJ

    Dear Ruth Ann,

    Greetings - all sounds good.

I have been advised that it is 'usual' to return crutches to hospital at 6 weeks but hey, that is my target certainly, but if it's nine weeks then thats the way it is for me!

    Go well,

    Mic

Well I got in the car and went to the supermarket the only trouble I had was shutting the door I had to get out and pul it in a bit closer also had to park at the end because of having the space to open the door in the first place.on the way home I et hearing a bee beep and realised I had forgotten to put my seat belt on I have never done that before!

      Hi Ruth

Is there anyway that you could tie abit of string or somthing similar to the inside of the door and when you get in then pull that to help you closethe door......very rough and ready but it helps at the start.

I used to have to drive around looking for an "Eileen Space"cheesygrin

To give me room to get out ....well dne anyway.

      Love Eileen

Well done.  Practice walking round the house etc and garden without a crutch or stick at first and see how it feels.  If you feel you need a bit of support when you go out then take the stick with you.  If you feel you need one for a bit longer then take it, there is no harm in that, better to be safe than sorry.  You will soon be walking out confidently without, especially if the sun is shining.

      Dear Barbara, Ruth,

Thanks for advice here. Confidence to walk across room crutch free is my current target, having mastered crutch free stairs. Feel wobbly and vulnerable when stranded between chairs for support. Still hope tho at 6 weeks to hand in crutches...and drive!

I think for walking on moors two poles would be excellent....tho hope waitrose shop is crutch free.

      Enjoy the sunshine e

    Well done ruthann,

I can't wait for my 6 week check! It's crazy, but I spend half the time wishing it was 3 months down the line from my op and the rest of the time complaining about how fast my life is whizzing by!

3 weeks today for me so a bit of catching up to you yet! Enjoy your new found freedom and I'm not the least bit jealous. Honest 😉
