Just skipped a dose, will it ruin my progress?

I'm in two minds whether I stop or not. The doctor has told me to stop because I told him it made me worse. But so many other people have told me this is normal, and I don't know whether I should just stick with it?

I am in the same position, but have not skipped a dose. This medication initially made my anxiety much, much worse for the first two weeks at 10 mg, then I had two weeks where things improved. My doctor raised my dosage to 15 mg almost two weeks ago (anxiety not all of the way gone) and my anxiety has gone sky high again. I understand that side effects can return when raising dosages but I didn't think they lasted this long (today was my 12th dose at 15 mg).
My doctor has told me to drop back down to 10 mg again which I finally think I am going to do. Depending on how that goes I may get off of the medication altogether (slowly, under my doctors supervision of course). So many people that I have read about say to stick to it and things will turn around but this anxiety is truly unbearable. At some point I think I need to listed to what my body and mind are telling me. Either 15 mg is too strong or Escitalopram may not be right for me.

For me this is my 3rd efford with escitalopram, and started from 5 mg for 10 days..once a day I will also have a quarter of tranxene (benzo). I know that maybe in the change form 5 to 10, I need two quarters of benzo per day in order to fight with the side effects of this med. And hope that up to 10mg will be right to getting over with anxiety. But I will and cross your fingers for me.
In my opinion, I think that still you have a lot of anxiety and you should take something, you have to insist even with the effort of a bit of benzo for the first month and you see. You have to be patient and prepaired for these side effects.
In the past I have used some other antidipressants such as effexor and ladose and had worse side effects, so I am afraid this time to change the med...from the other part my doctor is on vacation and cant have a session.
Good luck!

As for whether you quit taking it or not, I guess it depends on how bad your anxiety is, and if you can handle it without meds?
?For me, medication has made a big difference in my life, in a very positive way. I now wish I had started taking antidepressants years ago (I was 36 when I went on them); I think my 20s and early 30s would have been a much better experience had I been on meds back then ! ;-).
?I don't think one skipped dose will ruin your progress, as long as you start taking them again every day (provided if that's what you decide to do).
