JUST STARTED LEXAPRO TODAY. NEED ANSWERS!!!

I just started Lexapro today and took my first dose at 9am (EST). I only took 1/2 of a 10 mg to start. Aside from some stomach issues during the day things seemed to go half way decent. A little while ago I started getting these weird hot flashes and I'm a MALE. Hot almost burning feeling at the back of my neck, chest, and arms. I do not see any rash or hives present, so I am a little concerned. Now anxiety is kicking up a little since then, but had ZERO anxiety throughout the day. Has anyone had this side effect from taking Lexapro, as I am very new to this whole thing.

    Hello Andrew... Sounds like u have been done by Lexapro... But yes the hot flashes and aniexty is just part of the meds kicking in.. Well it happened to me so it's probably the Lexapro...I started 6 weeks ago on 2.5 and now I'm up to 7.5 and doing fairly well except for some am aniexty.. The heart racing and legs feeling like jello.. But after I get my am pill down it subsides by noon.. Your symptoms sounds like the meds but this to shall pass.. If u still feel concerned by Monday call your Dr .. R u can call your pharmacist and tell them what u r experiencing and see what he says..otherwise u should see improvement on a daily basic .. But it is slow and depends on you and how your body and system tolerates the meds... How long have u had your aniexty... ? I've had mine sence I was a young child.. Take Care and Keep on posting...       Unfortunately since about Xmas2017. Had a medical issue were I could barely breathe or swallow. Got that diagnosed and the anxiety I think was triggered from that event as I have never had anxiety. Usually I’m cool, calm, and collected so very messed up in my mind. I’m sorry you have had yours that long. I do not think I could have made it without losing my mind because I’m about there. Weird these attack’s seem to come out of nowhere and no meditation or calming techniques work so I have to pop an Alprazolam to get it together.

      Andrew... Soo Sorry to hear of your medical issue.. And yes that could and would cause aniexty for a person that had never had aniexty.. With that said.. I was where u r about 8 weeks ago .. After suffering Gad all my life almost a bout of aniexty hit me and I do know from where it came..I've always had a issue with medical that's why I have had GAD all my life .. I'm a person that wants to think I control somethings but we all kn we have 0 control over medical illnesses ( u know what I mean) if it hits us r not...I had a dear friend pass away and another one have a stroke and I just couldn't separate myself from the sadness and the aniexty.. It took me back to when I was a child and that sent me over the top.. For as a child u know we have no control over anything... So that's where I am 6 weeks into Lexapro and I have just increased to 10 mg. this am but I only take 2.5 mg. at a time 6 am.. Noon... 6pm ... And b4 I go to bed.. I'm very sensitive to meds that's why I have to space the dose out.. Because Lexapro is not a time released medicine your body gets it all at once.. My body can't process it all at once... I really know that Lexapro has worked well for me at this point and the only reason I'm increasing is because I going from 9 pm to 9 am with no dose and I was getting up with a little aniexty and rapid heart rate and shaky knees.. But if I see no change in about 2 weeks I will probably drop back down to 7.5 r find a new medicine but I pray Lexapro is it..  Give Lexapro some time to work..and yes u will have some aniexty from time to time b4 the meds really kick in... I have this choking feeling ever so often but is getting less and less but when I increase it comes back for a while until my body adjusts to the increase.. It's just where my aniexty hits when I'm on Lexapro but as I said I have always had it but not very often .. My aniexty and panic was always heart racing fear gripping feeling like I was dying.. R thinking I was.. The fear and etc. Horrible...do not have a enemy that I would wish it on.. It's that BAD...Take Care Andrew and Keep Posting.. God Bless

    Hi Andrew.. 

    Just wanted to let you know that I started Lexapro myself 13 days ago.. I am now up to 7.5.  I did and still do get burning sensations and a very tight feeling in my chest.. not really good for someone that has health anxiety and shortness of breath.
