Just started Prozac and feel worse then ever!

3 years ago I was on Prozac and it did wonders for me. The only side effect I remember having was a feeling of not being able to get a good deep breath unless I yawned. 6 days ago I was put back on (10mg). On Monday my dose goes up to 20mg. I have been waking up every morning at 3am with anxiety until about noon. I have a nervous stomach so when I go through bouts of anxiety I get physically sick. Every day has been vomiting stomach acid. I have barely eaten anything (which makes interesting bowel movments) because either I am sick or have no appetite. In the last week, I feel like my anxiety is worse. Are these normal side effects or is there something else really wrong with me?

    Hi Angela,

unfortunately those side effects seem to be the norm. I'm on my second go at Prozac and I am suffering with anxiety, nausea, the shakes, crying all the time etc. I too had no side effects my first time with Prozac. They should settled down in a few weeks, or so I am told by many on this site. Just take it easy and be kind to yourself. It will get better.

I have seen many people post that it will get better. What scares me is how many say it has taken them 6+ months. I don't know if I can survive this that long.

    Angela,

Unfortunately the withdraw process has side effects also. What you've described are common. However, if you need the medication, please try to stay on it. Since Fluoxetine is generic, it shouldn't that costly. Could you find out the cost to see if it is doable to your budget and go back to it?

I don't  have the acid reflux but I wake up stupid early with crippling anxiety that sticks with me till night time. Does this ever go away?

I don't feel like I can take much more.

Things have gotten slightly better. I am still waking up sick but not at 3am anymore. It is just crazy to me how right around 12-1pm I start feeling a lot better. I keep hoping I am turning a corner then morning comes and I am right back to the anxiety and being sick. This is just so emotionally draining.
