Just started the menopause

Hi, just been informed this week that I am menopausal from blood tests. I had no idea and now wished I didn't know. My GP asked what symptoms ive had , I said the only things I suffer with is sleepless nights being wide awake and sore joints, also my memory is like mince, can't remember names or put objects in the wrong places, but I haven't had any hot flushes, does this come later? Struggling to come to terms with this I'm 48

Hi Nancy I started in menapause at 48 I’m now 51. I started with the hot flashes. I went onto hrt patches low dose, it helped with them and the severe dizziness but my joints are really bad at the moment and also only getting a couple of hours sleep a night. It’s a nightmare. I’ve had every symptom going. Also my health anxiety as come back with revenge xx

    Hi Nancy.

I'm 42 and been experiencing perimenopause symptoms for about a year and a half.

I actually slowly started noticing changes in my my late 30's - absolute madness.. .

Like you, I've struggled to come to terms with it and still am. It's a daily battle. I have great days and weeks and then bang, symptoms hit me hard and I'm literally floored by them.

I don't take any hrt only vitamin D and Calcium supplement that the doctor advised, as I was told at this age if i didn't start, there's more chance of developing brittle bones and osteoporosis in later life. I guess the key is self care and a positive, mental attitude. Stay positive, focused and and talk about your symptoms/struggles as often as you can.

I hope you're ok and I hope this helps

Nancy, to answer your question about hot flashes.  Not all women get them.  I had some night sweats in early perimenopause, but nothing when I got to menopause.   Every women symptoms are different.  It really is luck of the draw.  But you will notice changes in your whole being.  At least most of us sure do.

Hi Gail, thanks for replying , the memory has been a problem for ages, in going into a room and forgetting what I went in there for, I put it down to being too busy, now I know it's one of the symptoms.

hi - I'm also 48. No hot flashes but tingling all over my face, body etc... in my breasts. Have had terrible debilitating insomnia for about 2.5 years. and before ablation I had horrendous irregular heavy clotting periods. glad i found this site and can see what other women are going through. i've also recently had nausea and have taken multiple pregnancy tests bc it feels like morning sickness..... it's horrible and all the tips and advice i see here are helpful. many of my cousins have gone through this in their early forties so i think 48 is mid way through or nearing the end for me...
