Just started this med.

I just started on a dosage of 10mg a night as the Doctor seems to think not will help control what he thinks is functional IBS. I've been in so much pain and had such chronic diarreah I was ready to go against my beliefs about this drug to get better.

So I took one last night at 10.30pm as I've been told by Doc it's best to take before I go to sleep as I'm woken in morning with this abdo pain. So tonight I have taken another 10 mg but at 9pm. I don't know if it's because I went straight to sleep after last nights tablet but tonight I feel weird. A bit panicking and on edge and I feel a bit drowsy and spaced out. It's only a small dose. Is this normal ? Has anyone had any good results with this drug for IBS? Thanks

Hello kim. I take 20 mgs at night for neck pain. If I take it and don't go straight to bed I get the same weird feelings and I've been taking it for about 7 years now. I find it's best to take it and go to bed. Some people take it about 3-4 hours before bedtime. It's trial and error really.

Kim, you have not actually said what drug you are taking.

Think it's Amitriptyline. That's what I took it to be as kims post is in that forum.

Sorry. I'm taking amytriptyline 10 mg a night. It makes me feel a bit spaced out. Also I have a headache with it too, not a bad one but a noticeable one. I think it's helping with my abdo pain and I haven't had diarreah since starting them. Let's see.

I take 20mgs at night. You'll get used to them. Did you feel spaced out this morning or was it just after you'd taken the tablet?

I take them around 10pm at night. I wake feeling a bit fuzzy headed. Slight headache too.

I take mine at 10pm and I find that suits me best. The fuzzy feeling and headache will stop as you get used to the tablets.

Hi I hope nobody minds me joining the conversation and asking when you start this med how long the spaced out feeling lasts. I have been taking 20 mg for alnost 3 weeks. Im waking spaced out which lasts a long time. Also im waking with what feels like a hangover...slightly heady, the shakes and heart racing a little (it just feels like I have been drinking lots of alcohol the night before...I dont actually drink!) im just wondering whether this wears off??

Hello alison. Of course nobody minds you joining in. I do it all the time lol. Welcome. If I remember correctly it took me 4-6 weeks to shake off the side effects. My GP prescribes 10mg tablets of which I take two, but I think I may have started with just one to begin with. What time do you take the Amitriptyline? It may help to take them a little earlier.

      Thanks matron :-)

      I was started on 20 mg ( which I also take 2 x 10 mg tablets)

I was taking it at about 10 pm but changed that to 8.30 pm. Trouble is I am woken everyday by my toddler whos wake up time is 5.30 am so not really sure what time to take them!

I just hope this shaky feeling wears off bcus it sets off the anxiety.

Hi again alison. I found initially that I suffered less side effects by taking it 12 hours before I needed to get up. Then I started taking it later as the side effects wore off.
