Mine kicked in very quickly but I think I was an extreme case. I was also suffering from withdrawal effects from Paroxetine which has been compared with heroin!

I had upset stomach, nausea and vomiting and extreme anxiety coupled with insomnia that lasted for a few months.

I am now on 200 mg and feel much better. The side effects are a sign that the drug is working, actually.

when i started Sertraline my side effects started almost straight away - crazy dreams, disturbed sleep, sore eyes, dry mouth and nausea. They went away after about 2 weeks. After about 8 - 10 weeks of taking it, thats when i started noticing a huge difference in myself so please be patient with it, it changed my life

Ben, everyone is different. My daughter only suffered dry mouth and insomnia (and the insomnia was probably from the depression), but had zero gastrointestinal distress, did not gain any weight or have any other side effects, etc. She really had minimal side effects. Fingers crossed that you won't have any bad ones but even if you do. Try to hang in there - my daughter is 100% cured of her depression and has tapered off the meds. Took her over 12 weeks to get there but she DID get there with the help of sertraline (zoloft is brand name in US) AND a good therapist. Sending positivity and healing thoughts to you! xo
