Hi I'm just starting on citalopram for anxiety (due to the current situation) my gp has given me 10mgs as I have had it before but a long time ago but I want to only take 5mg initially due to side effects but wondering how long to take half dose before increasing to the 10mg if anyone has done this before? Thanks for advice in advance!

    hi

i've been on and off it, too but I now increase by 2.5mg as i get all the side effects. i've just increased 5mg (2 lots of 2.5mg increases) over about 10 weeks - it has made my mood flat and a bif all over the place and i've had side effects but not quite as extreme.

side effects will come with every dose. istrted on 20mg I decided not to muck about with the dosage increases and just suffer trough few weeks of side effects instead of prolonging the whole process of recovery with increasing. side effects that I had were:

    panick attacks

    increased anxiety

lost 10kg as couldn't eat for 4 weeks

    stomach pain

    dizziness, fainting

    OCD

and these are just a few, was off work for 4 weeks because it was super bad. but it worked before and I had the same experience but once I suffered trough the side effects it cured my anxiety the first time round. many people quit because they cannot handle the side effects. they go away if you persist.
