Just starting out with possible tests

Hi all,

I am hoping that someone may be able to give me some advise/guidance. I am 23 and have recently been to the doctors as sex has always been painful for me. I have been putting off going to see the doctor for years and now it got to the point me and my partner would like children and I am too scared to have sexual intercourse as I know it will hurt. I (finally) saw my doctor who did blood tests, which have come back negative, and have not been referred to the hospital as I may have endometriosis.

Can someone please tell me what they will do in gyne when I go i.e. what examinations will they do etc as I am really nervous (and I have not even got my appointment yet!!!)

Thank you

Zara

Hi Zara, try not to worry about going to gyne. In order for them to diagnose you with endometriosis they have to insert a little camera in to your belly. They will give you a general anasthetic and blow your stomach up with a gas. This is so they can have a good look around. This is all done with key hole surgery.

When you come round they will tell you what they have found.

Treatment for this is to undergo laser treatment. Again you will have a general and they will use the gas and key hole surgery as before and burn the endometriosis away with the laser.

You may feel discomfort around the shoulders, this is from the gas they use to bloat your stomach. Also a little bruised (only to be expected)

Iv had endo twice and both times had this removed.

Please dont worry, when you see your gyno for the first time they will explain what they will do.

Good luck, Hope this helps a little

    Thank you for your reply.

When you first went to gyne did they know you had endo or did they have to diagnose you via surgery. I am just really worried and think that the worry is causing some violent headache I have now started experiencing.

I really hope that they can find out if I have it or not as I really want children and have read that endo can cause fertility problems.

Hi Zara, you can only diagnose via the little camera inserted in to your stomach. your GP is unable to tell.

Try not to worry to much. There are varying degrees to Endo. There is nothing to say that you cant have children. It really does just depend how much you have.

Iv had it twice, and 2 of my friends have also had it. Its quite common.

Take care and hope this can ease some of your worrying.
