My doctor has just started me on setraline 25 mg. I am on my 2nd day but already feeling my mood is getting better however it is giving me nausea and increased anxiety. Has any one experienced this before? And how long before these side effects go away?

Hi Everyone, I have also started Sertraline this week, on monday. The first day I noticed that my thoughts were calmer but mood incredibly low and cried all day, second day I felt a bit manic! I felt like I was tripping over my words, but felt good in mood! Third day which was yesterday, I felt very wobbly and extremely spaced out, like I was in the land of zog! Went for a walk and felt like I was gonna pass out! My appetite is not there (wasnot much before mind). I have noticed that other people have had similar side effects but not all the ones I have mentioned. Today, I think is better however I do have a banging headache! I have not gone outside the house yet but dont feel as spaced today. Mood seems ok. Is this normal to have up's and down's taking this tablet? Also how long roughly before you have days where you are feeling consistently ok? Tough question I know as suppose we all respond differently. I think I will carry on taking it as things dont seem as bad as they were before so thats a good thing right? xxx

I have been prescribed Sertraline today. I'm on Citalopram at the moment, which I have to come off of over the next two weeks then start the Sertraline. I am very nervous about it. I've been on Citalopram for three years but over the last six months have found it getting harder to cope with life and get no pleasure from anything anymore. Last week I had to leave a meeting in floods of tears because a colleague had been a bit abrupt - so embarasing. I hope the Sertraline will improve things but looking at posts from those previously on Citalopram I'm not looking forward to the transition. If anyone has a positive experience of the transition to share it would give me a boost.

Hi there! Since I last reported, I wanted to tell everyone that my mood continued to brighten with less worrying that thoughts. My anxiety decreased and was starting to feel like I felt many years ago which is a good thing! The first week was half a tab, 25mg and the second week, 50mg. Since commencing the increase I have noticed that my mood has dipped? In turn my motivation has dipped but still forcing myself to go out a bit. I do not understand this. Has anyone experienced this initially following an increase in dose? Does it get any better as I was starting to like how I was feeling before.

Hello Michelle how are things now I'm having a rough time getting back on Zoloft 50mg . It's only been about 10 days for me back on the meds and I feel awful

Reading through all of this is quite worrying in itself. I've been on Citalopram for many years, never felt they worked. Ofcourse several suicidal attempts, feeling that others deserve to live than myself.

Doctors are switching me to this Setraline and from what most of your are saying, the side effects are pretty bad. Doesn't this just make your mood lower? I just wanted to check up on this medication to see what the doctors are doing to me.

Michelle - I'm also starting the 25mg next week and i guess 50mg the week after, so taking more has decreased your mood? This is ofcourse not good at all, I'd like an update since now it should be in your system.

Loved the first week on it - felt on top of the world. After that the feeling wore off and I was back to feeling crap again. Have of a couple of months and stopped taking it. Got a stern look and a telling off but it didn't seem to be doing any good. Never offered me anything else.

Hi all, glad there are other people out there taking this drug. I have been on it for 5 months taking 50mg per day. I am experiencing a high pitch sound constantly in my head, it is like tinitus I have been told. However when working although its there in the background i tend not to dwell and notice it so much but if relaxing or not doing anything it becomes unbearable. Is there any one out there experiencing the same?

    Hi

I've been on 50mg for two weeks now. Coming off the Citalopram was less of a problem than I thought - just felt a bit spaced out. The Sertraline made my anxiety much worse in the first week but that has got better. I'm starting to feel better about myself, less anxious and better able to cope. I've even had a few positive thoughts about the future - that's amazing. The only other thing I've noticed is that my stomach is a bit upset. As its only two weeks since I started on these I'm not counting my chickens yet, but remain hopeful.

Les4 - On the tinnitus, I've had it for many years but I haven't noticed any change in it since starting on the Sertraline. It could be a coincidence that it started for you when you went on these pills. They think mine is linked to hearing loss - it might be worth having your hearing tested. Like you I only notice it when it is very quiet, or like now when I'm thinking about it, or when I am feeling very tired or stressed. It really bothered me at first but now it only gets on my nerves when I'm tired. You could try having some background noise, like the radio or tv on low, when you are relaxing or in a quiet room. I believe there are DVD's of "white noise" available that are said to be very helpful - never tried it myself.

Have you been on 150mg for 8 weeks Louise? They say you start all over with an increase. Today I've felt somewhat better but always get anxiety ( still ) around 4 p.m. This is quite a journey. You never know from one day to the next how you're going to feel!
