My doctor has just started me on setraline 25 mg. I am on my 2nd day but already feeling my mood is getting better however it is giving me nausea and increased anxiety. Has any one experienced this before? And how long before these side effects go away?

Thanks New Dawn for your kind words. I'm starting to feel a little better now actually smile I had a massive anxiety attack for most of the day and at night I started to calm down and felt better. Since then not too bad. still a little drowsy and shaky especially if I drink tea or coffee, which is a bit of a bummer since I love a good brew but I think i'm over the worst of it smile Ive been taking them just over 3 weeks now. How long did it take the side effects to wear off with you? Thanks for the advice smile

Hi Dany, sorry to hear you're having problems with your medication. Unfortunately, I cannot advise on the dizziness, as I personally did not get it, but a lot of people say that it helps if they stop drinking coffee or tea. Sorry I can't be more helpful, hope you feel better soon.

Hey, just been diagnosed with clinical depression and PMDD and prescribed Sertraline at 50mg. Ashamed to say I knew nothing about these conditions till the wheels fell off my wagon at work today after a particularly bad few months.

It's been a real relief to see that so many of the feelings and symptoms I have are not as weird as I thought. Feeling like this has been so awful, but I just kind of put up with it and assumed it was normal, as i have been like this for years! If only I'd known before that I didn't need to feel this bad, or guilty about having no reason to feel bad - vicious circle of guilt and misery.

I'm a bit worried about some of the side effects that people are talking about, I have abdominal migraine, sleeplessness, lack of appetite, racing brain, feeling hyper and out of control and intrusive thoughts that I chew over and chew over already so I'm hoping that these abate rather than get worse, but a lot of people seem to be saying it gets quite a bit worse before it gets better.... sad. here's hoping...

Hi dizzie. The first 4 weeks of taking these was awful for me. Panic attacks, anxiety attacks, mood changing from angry to sad to anxious, feeling like I was gonna crack. After about 4 weeks the side effects started to wear off but then I went up to 100mg and the side effects kicked in again but seem to be subsiding after a few days and my mood seems less erratic. Still a bit jumpy though and anxious about bumping into people and when the toast pops up out of the toaster I jump out my skin smile Ive been taking them for about 5 weeks now but compared to when I first started this is paradise

Hi dany, everybody's different really, could last a week could last 5. I'd expect to be in it for the long haul if I was you and if they wear off before 6 weeks its a bonus. How much are you taking? you could try splitting it half in the morning and half in the evening. Ive been on it 5 or 6 weeks and Im still having mood swings. didn't sleep at all last night was crying at 5 o'clock this morning. Its worse if Ive nothing to engage in, like playing my keyboard or just looking stuff up on the internet. Once I'm laid there with my thoughts its pretty hard. Ill give them 3 months tops and if Im not happy after that I'll stop. The first 4 weeks felt like they took me to the brink though to be honest so if the side effects are to much for you you might consider trying something else. I didnt have any side effects off prozac and they really helped with my panic/anxiety. Not so much depression though

I felt really depressed at first as well, they do upset your stomach and make you nauseous so it could be normal but if your getting really concerned you better mention it to your doctor. To be honest it might be better going back to your doctor and trying something else if you feel that bad. I kinda wish I did to be honest. You dont wanna have to come down from a massive dose as well. I wondnt of slept again last night so I had to have a zopiclone tablet and that would of been missing the previous nights sleep and getting a couple of hours in the afternoon

I know what you mean, they don't like giving sleepers out. Can you not ask another doctor at the surgery? and just explain that you just need a low dose to take every now and again when the lack of sleep gets to much? Tell them that you don't think you can cope and you need help cause you feel as if your going over the edge. You could try nytol just to put you out and boots do an extra strength anti histamine to help you sleep which do work but made me really depressed the day after. Other than that you could just explain that you need anything, not necessarily a hypnotic thats gonna help you off to sleep Zispin (mirtazapine) would do the trick and you only need a low dose 3.75mg would do. Thats half a 7.5 tablet. Its an anti depressant but I think you can take it alongside SSRI's and benzodiazepines. I don't think there will be a problem. At higher doses they may make you drowsy in the day, but you'll probably welcome that. No bad withdrawal's either

hi i was feeling very low and tearful and had panic attacks, my doctor prescribed me sertraline 50mg and sent me for blood tests i took the pill at night and had a terrible reaction to it, within 2 hours i felt like i was having a heart attak and stressing badly by the morning i was left feeling shaky and felt nervous all day i didnt dare take another tablet, my blood test came back immediately and revealed i had low folic acid deficiency which side affects are depression, panic attacks, low mood, etc, i'm now taking a high dose of folic acid prescribed from my doctors and eating food with folic acid in it its been a month now and feeling like my old self, i would stress to anyone who is starting to feel depressed or anxious please get a full blood test done first before starting on any tablets .

That's interesting! I think thyroid problems can also be a cause of those symptoms but it's supposed to be standard practice now I think to have a thyroid test for anyone suffering depression longer than 6 months
