My doctor has just started me on setraline 25 mg. I am on my 2nd day but already feeling my mood is getting better however it is giving me nausea and increased anxiety. Has any one experienced this before? And how long before these side effects go away?

Hi I just started these setraline last Tuesday 25mg for three days then 50mg, I have never had to take anything like this before, and I do feel much as I did before I started it but I say it is only a week.  I had an accident just before Christmas and broke my wrist, when the cast came off 6 weeks later the anxiety and mild depression started.  I have had to avoid meetings at work going into rooms with a lot of people stresses me, I also find I do not want to talk to people for long.  it is horrible, I have also had some days where I cried most of the day and I am not a person who cries, so it is very scary.  I am hoping the setraline will help me.  I think the effects vairy from person to person so I am trying to stick with it, as I get a couple of good days each week which feels like being on holiday as it is so nice to be back to normal.

Hello everyone, I am knew to this site..I have been dealing with anxiety and depression for last seven years. It comes and goes but in the last year and a half it has been almost unbearable. Im sure as you all know dealing with this can be exhausting...I can barley get out of bed...going to work is an everyday battle to the point where i can only work casual..if i have a weeks schedule my brain goes off and i freak out and can't go. My doctor put me on an anti depressant about a year and a half ago, I tried it for six months but my experience was horrible...I gained 60 pounds and became suicidal. Ive been off of it now for a year trying to deal with this by myself but have came to the realization I'm really not coping well..its hard for me to admit that i have this disorder and to be honest it makes feel inadequate as a human being. My boyfriend loves me to death but he really docent understand what its like..I feel like i have nowhere to turn to and am terrified that ill never be able to get feeling better. Im so sick of this holding me back.....so with that being said about two weeks ago I went to my GP and she put me on Setraline. At first it felt as if I had taken a bunch of caffeine pills, was very shaky and just felt off..almost like i couldn't catch my breath. That feeling for the most is gone but now I'm dealing with bouts of unexplainable crying...more than usual lol. I feel really angry at moments and the anxiety is at its utmost worst. I have Ativan and that seems to be helping when the anxiety gets too inteanse....Im loosing hope that this is going to work and it scares the crap out of me. I wanted to share with you all.

    Hello.

I am a 17 year old who has been prescribed sertraline. So far, I haven’t had a good time with it but I am still continuing to take them. I was prescribe these for anxiety and put straight onto 50mg. I decided to take mine at night as I thought I could just sleep through all the symptoms but boy was I wrong. On the first night of taking them, I hardly got any sleep but I thought nothing of this as I knew this was one of the side effects. When I woke up, I felt really sick, I was shaky and my body was weak. Later on in the day I was actually sick and still continued to suffer from all the other side effects I have listed above. I also felt so knocked out and didn’t feel with it all. The side effects did begin to ware off towards the end of the night before taking my second tablet but before I took another, I rang 111 for some advice just to be on the safe side. They said that I am most likely experiencing side effects but to continue taking them until Monday when I could ring my Doctors for advice, unless of course my symptoms got worse. The second nd third night were not so bad but I still don’t feel like my normal self. I wasn’t sick from that point but I did start to get muscle spasms. On the third day which is today for me, I still struggled to get a full night sleep and when I woke up, I feel a bit dizzy and very shaky. As it’s now Monday for me, I’ve rang the doctors and they said that this seems fairly normal apart from the shaking. My doctor said it isn’t exactly normal but it shouldn’t be anything to worry about as these things can happen on medication. He decided it would be best if I knock it down to 25mg (half a tablet) for the next few days. I am now really hoping to see some improvements and it in ther 10 days nothing changes then I will definitely be coming off of sertraline. I can however say that my anxiety has improved but usually it doesn’t act that fast so I feel like it’s because I’ve had all of these side effects to worry about, I’ve not had time to even think about my anxiety. I am writing this post to help others because I was seeing mixed opinions and different side effects but not quite a story like mine. So hopefully this will help people with more minor effects than mine to know that you should be okay and it could be worse and this can also be used as some advise to people who may have experienced the exact same as me. However, do still run any concerns past your doctor as I am not at all qualified I’m just talking from experience and the advise I have been given but remember, we all react differently.

I hope this helps and good luck to anyone taking sertraline. Remember the first few weeks are gonna be tough, but hopefully in the long run it’ll be worth it. Don’t let anxiety and depression win, we are stronger then that!

    All the best

Hi i'm dave. I've been on sertraline for nearly 3 years now. I started to feel depressed a couple of days after first starting them. This has continued for the 3 years I've been on these. Over several months the dose has been increased until i'm now on the max dose. I have been on this high dose for a year and a half to two years now. I've noticed that the increase has made me feel very sleepy and outspaced but definitely i still feel

depressed too. I have an appointment with the psychiatrist next week so i hope that this time she will agree to lower the dose. How are you doing?

Hi. I took my first dose of 25 mg yesterday. I followed advice and took it after food in the evening so I would be askeep when the effects were at their strongest. Wrong! I had insomnia and nausea and was awake half the night. Feeling awful this morning!
