Just tried to kneel..........ouch!!!

I have just tried to kneel (keeping hips straight) - had to leap up (well, not so much a 'leap' 😁😁wink as knees sooo painful!! Had no knee problems before. Is this due to residual swelling from the ops? Gave me quite a shock! Won't be doing that again in a hurry.....😁😁 anyone had similar experience?

I am almost 6 weeks out and I haven't kneeled on the ground yet !!! whilst you can keep your hips straight it's so easy to break the 90 degree rule. I wouldn't do it yet if I was you. Take it easy xx

Am sure you're right. I did it almost without thinking - gave me a shock! Will take your advice. Thanks Sandra. 😊

Just looked it up as need to kneel at allotment. It says we can kneel after completing 12 weeks. It says we should start with half kneel by just putting knee of operated leg down only. When ok with this we can put other knee down. We should get up with unoperated leg first. This is because last leg to go down will be at almost 90 degrees.

Oh well I'll have to let him do the low ground work a while longer 😃

Also it appears that our ITband is affected by THR. My lower thigh and knee swelled and was painful too. I found it difficult to even bend my knee for a while. My shin was also painful. My pains have mainly been along the areas of the ITband .

    Sandra, Jilly,

That sounds like me. My knee was fine a week after surgery, then when I over did it, I had internal bleeding. My leg swelling has gone down drastically in the last 5 days thank god! My skin splits and rashes went away. But my knee will not bend. I am told from x ray, that is left over blood stuck around my knee cap. It cant be drained because they said it gets thick like jello. only slow knee bends while on back will work it out.. The knee bends are pretty painful, I draw it back and hold for 5 seconds then release. My surgeon has told me to start back at physical therapy but only work on walking and knee bends, nothing else at this point. I am at 2.5 weeks posterior right side. They also had me wrap my entire leg in a double ace bandage wrap whenever I am on my feet to keep swelling down.

    Hi Jilly!

Do you still have some swelling around the knee? If so, that's why they feel sore. That and the fact that the tissue from knee to hip is still healing. I had that for awhile until the swelling subsided and now it seems fine to kneel.

Hi Cormacrobert - hips, thighs and knees were v swollen immediately post op (daughter said i looked like Kim Kardashian!! 😂😂wink. Swlling has gone down a lot but think there may be some residual - can't really remember what my knees looked like before now. Certainly felt a lot of tightness around knees when pain shot through. Brought tears to my eyes!!

Discovered the same way as you, although a little over a year since my last surgery, before i tried kneeling, OUCHHHH,

Few days later had to visit GP for husband, all he was interested in was my knees, he asked what i had been doing, ordered up an x-ray, arthritis has also attacked my knees, surprise surprise, told not to try kneeling again, as he was amazed prior to that i had no pain from knees, arthritis moderately advanced, GP said we will be keeping on eye on your knees, they will need replacing as well.

It seems if you are unlucky enough to have a family like mine, hips and knees are a really big problem, brother has just had knee replacements as well, last xmas.

Oh gosh Lyn! Must have been a big shock for you! I do hope i don't have arthritis there too. But have been on prescription strength cocodamol for so long it may have masked arthritis creeping in elsewhere. My neck has been v creaky for ages - now reducing pain relief am noticing pain there too. Can't say am liking this getting older lark....😕

Jilly - Agree with you about getting old, I think god played a dirty trick on us, I still remember scoffing when my Mum complained she had aching joints, Well that little scoff has come back to bite me on the bum ten times over.

I too hope that the strong painkillers have not been covering other issues, same as you, maybe why I was getting no pain from my knees.

    Best wishes to you Lyn

Hi , i was able to knnel after 4 monts after operation  but wasn't without pain. It will take time to kneel without pain . Im 11 months afer hip replecement  and know i find ok to kneel ok. Dont kneel if is hurt you can do some damage.  Just wait when is comfortable for you to kneel without to much pain. Just take it easy. Dont over do it. Listen your body.

    Hug Madla💗
