K wire removal post-pain- DOUBLE BUNION SURGERY

Posted , 3 users are following.

Hello. I had my k wires removed today after 2 surgeries (first one failed at a general hospital so i went to a private one and the surgeon put 2 k wires in one foot and 1 in the other) My right foot had 2 pins at 9cm lenght and didnt hurt AT ALL but my left foot had a 20cm pin and hurt a lot because it wouldnt come out. (It's been 6 weeks since the second surgery).

Now it's been about 8 hours and my feet still hurt after the removal. I feel pain in the bone is that normal???? I'm so scared that the bones are gonna somehow move... I'm gonna start walking normally in a week (so at 7 weeks post surgery) and have xrays again in a month.

Did you feel pain after the removal too? How long did it last? I really hope everything will heal perfectly because i've been beddriden for 3 months now...

HI Anna...I hope your feeling better. What was the outcome of the K-pin removal (I am scheduled to have mine removed in less than 2 weeks)

    Thanks!

      Hello,

Don't worry about it you'll be completely fine!! I am now 10 weeks post surgery and had my pins removed 3 weeks ago. As I said my left foot hurt because the pin was 20cm long and the doctor had a hard time pulling it out, so I had pain for 4-5 days but now I'm completely fine (hopefully) I'm getting xrays again in 3 days. The little holes from the pins healed in a few days and the scab fell in about 15 days.

My feet hurt and get a little swollen after walking long distances but I'm happy to say that I finally feel normal while sitting and driving. Walking is another story since I do limp after a while because my ankles and calves haven't been used in 4 months which is completely normal. The doctor said this will happen for 6 months but keep in mind I had the same surgery twice so recovery will be longer for me.

You'll feel so much better when the pins are removed! And even if pulling them out hurts a little, keep in mind it will only last for a few seconds!! For me it only hurt on my left foot..I barely felt anything other but pressure on my right foot which was great..Hope you get well soon!
