Keeping LS at bay and beware spraying baking soda and swimming

Hi everyone. Just wanted to share that as recommended in previous posts i commenced spraying my LS area with baking soda after urinating. After just 36 hours I managed to get contact dermatitis on my cheeks around anus opening. I get LS there as well as around vulva. Didn't know what it was and thought I had a  major flare up of LS. It took 5 weeks to clear up of severe itching and soreness. Such a shame as I have managed to keep my LS at bay now for 9 months.   It was just one pimple like symptom so do watch out for this.

Managed to keep my LS at bay with no itching or soreness through using a cream called Diprobase around the vulva and anus 3 or 4 times a day. This is just a general cream for psoriasis and other dry skin conditions. It causes no irritation at all even around the uretha should you get cream there and takes seconds to apply. First time in 10 years I have gone without the burning and soreness.

I am sure my LS was caused by swimming for 30 mins 5 or 6 times a week which I did for about 5 years before my LS started. I stopped swimming about 4 years ago because it always made my LS burn so much. I recently went on a holiday and without thinking  I swam in a pool for 3 days running.  On the third day .... Acute burning.

Hope  this helps someone control LS.

Sounds like your baking soda rinse could have been too strong...you don't need much at all in a spray bottle...two much would cause irritation/burning/blistering.  Probably no more than a teaspoon per 16 ounces of water.  I've used more without issues...but only do that about every other day...not after each toileting.

Helle Anna.  You could try with using a barrier cream before you get in the water.  I have used a liberal coating of vaseling before now.  Get your swim wear off asap and dont sit in  jacuzzi, steam/sauna after?

Where do you buy diprobase?  I live in the States.

Hi Lyn  Just from a pharmacy in the UK.  It just has no irritants in it at all.  Have tried Emuoil before which I purchased from Amazon, but if I went "astray" with the application, then I definitley irritated the Uretha.

Not sure if this first post went through so i will try again.  I had an inflammatory response to the baking soda spray after urinating.  After only the third use I experienced acute urethral pain that took a while to go away, several days after discontinuing.  Settled down with regular use of Cetaphil and coconut oil in the morning and night.  Have not been swimming this winter until  yesterday in a chlorine pool.  Had inflammation and soreness tiday.  This is a problem as we have a chlorine pool I used all summer but chlorine is a definite trigger wven when using a barrier cream.

I cant swim in Chlorine either but I find sea swimming is great for the LS, very soothing and cooling - in fact since I live in Ireland it's EXTREMELY cooling. When we go on holidays nearness to the beach is a top priority.

hey lyn this is 5 years old but maybe cover your urethra before spraying? someone had also mentioned that baking soda is very basic and the urethra likes acid, so they add some unpasteurized apple cider vinegar to the solution. Perhaps this could work for you
