Kenalog Protocol and possible failed surgery...

I started to have severe hemorrhoid pain about April 2018. I went to see a GI doctor about the problem so he suggested for me to have an colonoscopy which I had done before on 2 different occasions. Nothing was found everything was healthy as far as my colon was concerned. 3 weeks later in May 2018 I was badly constipated. I have IBS symptoms but never been treated for it. So this Hard BM was the cause of my troubles to this date. I have seen 2 different Colorectal Surgeons and both suggested LIS and informed me very clearly of the possibility of be incontinent for the rest of my life. Since then I been in too much fear of having my sphincter cut. Which is now seeming like another option If I do not heal. Searching for solutions to my dilemma and excruciating pain I found Dr Feingold who is performing successful Procedures on those suffering from chronic AF. Off I went to my appointment spoke with Dr Feingold. He is very honest and tells you everything upfront. I am very happy with my choice even though I am still suffering from BM daily. My source for relief besides a lot of prayers has been prescribed medications with Ibuprofen. Most of you who share information with others and myself has helped me so much during this time. This post is not to scare off anyone but to share my own experiences with Dr Feingold's AF surgery. He is still an awesome Surgeon as far as I am concerned. I know He and his nurses will to everything they can to help. Before my surgery he told me again I have a 85% chance of a successful healing due to my size and health issues. unfortunately I am disabled from Spinal Stenosis which leaves me suffering in pain in my upper and lower body. All this added hardships has taken its toll and of course little to zero quality of life. As for anyone reading this please make the best decisions for your quality of life and share what has been helping you heal and get through each day. I am no expert but keeping stress down, diet, sitz bath, medication, supplements will help as far as I know. No One way will work since what worked for one person is only subjective to that person's healing. At least we get some direction to cure this Hellish wound. Any questions about my surgery or concerns I'll be happy to answer. I am still hoping in the next few weeks I will be healed and pain free.

Whissler, Thank you for sharing your story with us. I had a fissure about 2 years ago, and hemorroid surgery over 10 years ago due to my pregnancy. I had IBS as well for so many years and went to different doctors and they sent me for colonoscopy and they had my do sitz, and recommended special diets. Nothing worked. Until finally I was blessed to find a doctor who had told me in just seconds that I had a fissure, and I never knew what that was until then. I was scared to do the surgery after hearing the about the side affects afterwards and knowing I could make it worse. Well I had the surgery and it took me a few weeks to feel better and months to fully heal. But it was worth it! I feel normal again like I can finally breathe. Once in a great while I will feel a slight IBS , but nothing like before. The pain was excruciating nothing like I've ever felt before. Since my surgery, I have followed up on this site as well in hopes to help others who are going through this same thing and let them know that having surgery worked very well for me, if nothing else works.

Thank you all for your advice and stories shared. I have learned much and keep learning from the people here. Almost in my 6 weeks out, soon I'll have to make a follow up appointment with my surgeon. I have manageable pain now. I use meds only if I really irritated that area from to many bathroom trips. Quality of life is improving, Staying away from my home bathroom is still not quite there. Public restrooms just would serve me well at this time. Managing the texture of my stool has been problematic at times. Stool softeners, laxatives, Magnesium citrate all irritated my IBS or made me feel illness from other health problems I have. I can only drink so much water without rushing to the toilet every 5 minutes lol The good thing is I'm losing weight 😃 Even when I'm all healed up, eating healthy will help keep me on track. So far I can say the Kenalog Protocol with lots of prayer and great tips looks like a soon success! Thank you all 😃

How long ago did you have the procedure? I had mine 12 weeks ago and still feeling decent pain a few hours after BMs... Not sure if this means I need to get the procedure again/consider LIS, but as of right now I'm probably chalking this up to a failure as well.

I may need to revise my last update sadly, it will be 6 weeks May 1st getting close to make a follow up. I'm thinking I may need LIS too even though there's no heavy bleeding. I still get terrible cramps from the sphincter it's so tight I have to sit on a heating pad even after sitz bath. That pain is the worst part. feels like a tight rubber band 😦
I don't even want another surgery but I cant live with this pain. some days are better than others to be honest. Until the cramping starts up again ; ;
Let me know what you or dr Feingold decide. At least the dr was honest enough to say 85% chance for me. God willing we are pain free from AF's soon!

i had a checkin after 6 weeks and was told to give it another 2 months. ill be at that point in a week or two and im unsure if it will fully heal. he said if it still hurts then to do a "zap of electricity" to get it to heal the final amount. if its not better in 2 weeks ill do that before LIS. good luck!

I never considered that as an option but If you go with another zap, I really hope you are healed so no need for further surgery. whatever the results please share. I'm with you on this as its a learning experience for both of us to see what will work best. DR. Feingold shouldn't worry about tarnishing his success rate over what is more of a guarantee. Yeah theres a chance of control loss but I get that once in awhile already lol It suxs but the pain is no joke.

I saw Dr Keller recently for my follow up. She is very good to. She explained everything I needed to know and put me on medications to help finish up the Kenalog Protocol healing. I did not realize that this procedure takes 4 month to feel better. I still have pain but not as much. I hope you find where Dr Feingold is working now. If I find out anything I will post it here.

I was not dealing with one but 2 AF, took me 3 months after the surgery to see Dr Keller. Since Dr Feingold no longer works there. Dr Keller told me Kenalog Protocol can take 4 months to feel better. Thankfully after seeing her I been doing much better before that time. I noticed we all experienced different results with the same surgery. Even if it takes longer to heal we are on the right direction and just need to manage ourselves to have the best possible outcome. I'm still taking 600mg Ibuprofen with 325mg tylenol twice a day since the swelling is the reason for most of my pain. Hopefully soon I can be off these pain meds. Next week I have another follow up.

I used to be a patient of Dr.Feingold. I think he transferred to Rutgers Health Hospital in NJ.
