key hole surgery for complex ovarian cyst

I was hoping someone can help and alleviate my fears. I have been diagnosed with two ovarian complex cyst last year one measured 5.5 cm but I did not want to operate so I opted for monitoring via ultra sounds on a regular basis and kept having blood test for cancer markers. I went today for ultra sound and it showed that the cyst is now 6.5 cm. I am so afraid of the key hole surgery partly becuase i watched my husband after his key hole surgery for gall bladder and he ended up in emergency unit the same day he came hoem due to unbearbale pain in his stomach and they said it could have been a reaction to the dye pr the gas pumped etc but they could not confirm and I watched him in terrible agony for many days. I am afraid as for one I am allergic to codeine and codeine derivatives which means all i can tolerate is panadol which is not strong enough for pain. I had a wisdom teeth operation done in the past and the pain from that was unbearable as I was not able to take codeine so how will I even cope with pain from this surgery let alone if there was complications. I am also worried about the recovery time as I always seem to be a slow healer. Has anyone been in this situation before? Thank you

Hi, i had key hole surgery 3wks ago today. The recovery isnt that bad, i know you cant take codeine but you would be given tramadol instead which is stronger also maybe naproxen (neither contain codeine). I had a 14cm dermoid cyst removed plus ovary and samples taken, fluid drained also.

The pain was bad the first few days but that is to be expected, as the days go on the pain gets less and less. I was driving 2 days after but i must admit i went back to work to soon and ended up with septacemia. Try to take it easy for aslong as possible after to avoid any complications. You will be glad you had it done when you are healed.

    Best wishes

Your more than welcome.. The anticipation of what to expect is the hardest, also the waiting. Afterwards you will be on here like me with a similar story ( no septacemia i hope). You will find lots of ladies with great advice on here ( hope it helps)

      Good luck x
