Kidney failure and losing muscle

Hi

My father has kidney failure and they started him on dialysis 3 weeks ago.

I thought it would help him regain his strength but he seems to be getting weaker. He has to walk around with a walker now and now more recently he assisted to get up on his two feet.

Is this normal or can someone offer some advice. None of the doctors can really say why. Some say cause he’s anemic now but he still looks and feels exhausted all the time.

Just hoping if this is something people have gone through while starting dialysis or not typical.

Thanks

    Ha wee,

Since your father's doctors are saying he is now anemic, is this a change or was he anemic before? Also, what are they doing to treat his anemia? They should be able to treat the anemia.

How old is your father, does he have high BP, and what was his gfr when he started dialisis? Thanks for the additional information.

A patient I would call elderly, 75 or over is not going to react the same to dialysis as a 50 year old.  At any age if he is anemic it will take it out of a person. We didn't get enough information to form an opinion. Sorry
