Kidney Pain

I woke up this morning with a mild pain in my left flank area, which I believe is coming from my left kidney. I didn't think much of it at first, but soon I started having waves of excrutiating, stabbing pain in the same area. The pain would then ease up for 15-20 minutes, and then suddenly hit me again 10/10 and I just want to scream because it hurts so bad. This has been going on for about 12 hours now. I have never had a kidney stone before, so am not familiar with the symptoms. Is this typical of kidney stones or does it sound more like something else? I'm hoping that the pain starts going away on its own or that I am feeling better in the morning but if not, I am calling my doctor first thing in the morning.

Sure does! I've had 10 kidney stones and multiple surgeries, are you having any troubles peeing? Drink a lot of water, and add lemon juice! Some times I drink bottles of water and I won't go to the bathroom I'll just take a nap and when I wake up they pass, baths also help. Kidney stone pain comes and goes one minute it'll feel like someone's stabbing you and the next it'll stop. GOOD LUCK!

    Hope it settles down
