Kidney pain after Cystoscopy/Cystodistention

Almost a year ago I discovered I had a 7.4mm kidney stone. I was advised by the treating Dr that people live with kidney stones for years so I shouldn't worry. A month or so later I had a new Dr who referred me to a urologist. After an ultrasound the urologist recommended that I return in 3 months to check the position of the stone. So 3 months later the ultrasound showed the stone had not moved and I was not experiencing any pain. A couple of months later I had my first renal colic attack ( I didn't know what it was at first). I woke with it at 1.30am, took panadol and ibuprofen but it just got worse. Pain was 10+. Called an ambulance and was taken to ER. 5 shots of morphine later the pain subsided and I was sent home. 3 days later I'm back in ER with renal colic, urine test and blood test showed no infection. Ultrasound showed no movement of stone. 7 days later back to ER. This time I have an infection so next morning I'm in surgery having a stent put in. I've read some of the previous posts on here about the horrors of kidney stents. They're all true. I could feel that stent in my bladder. I was urinating every few minutes. Bleeding just about every time I urinated and the pain was vicious. I got a UTI as well. I had that stent in for 7 lousy weeks before I was finally back in hospital for laser treatment. The stone had grown to 9mm and needs to be lasered again. That was on Thursday 31st Aug. They put in a new stent, but a shorter one with a catheter at the bladder end. So far I can't feel it, and it's a blessing. BUT, I have really awful kidney pain. After taking tramadol and panadol the pain has subsided, so I'm hoping for the best that it doesn't return. I feel the utmost sympathy for all the sufferers of kidney stones and stents. They don't tell you how uncomfortable those stents are. My second stent was put in by a different surgeon and I'm grateful for the relief. I just pray it stays this way. Like many of you I found the only relief was laying down. Perhaps lessening the pull of gravity is what helped. My best wishes to all those experiencing this awful condition!

Lol I know I could write a book on the whole experience from the end of march up until now writing this post in hospital 20:10 pm , uk, redditch hospital , I had the stone and stent removed yesterday we'll partially removed should now be small enough to pee it out in the next few days , I'm peeing through a catheter at the moment but I am really looking forward to getting back to normality and closing this awful chapter omg what a few months it's been and finally a relief is here , all the staff and nurses on ward 10 at Alexandra hospital are absolutely a god send after everything I have been through at the Worcester royal hospital sending me home with mild pain relief and failing to find the cause of my pains , the nurses at Alexandra are so comforting welcoming and really do help can't thank them enough , hopefully home tomorrow evening I may attempt to cut my 2 foot long grass now I can move about 😱

Hopefully it's all done with for you Rich, and I'm glad to know you're recovering. I never would have thought a kidney stone could cause so much pain and disability. I know what you mean about your grass, mine isn't fairing much better and still after my laser surgery I'm in too much pain to cut mine. It's a year now since this problem began and I just wish it could be over.

A whole year after surgery your getting me worried as I seem to be one of those people who "if it can it will go wrong types" what are your doctors saying about it is it a infection? Mabe a course of strong antibiotics could help you , I have just had the all ok to go home after passing all the test I am peeing fine without a catheter and the regular scans are showing bladder is emptying properly I don't feel too saw when peeing so I really hope things are going to continue to be fine , I went for a walk around the hospital and outside it felt great not even a twinge I was smiling to my self thinking you really take it for granted what normal feels like , and yes I know what you mean just a stone causing you to be basically intermittently/disabled like for me I couldn't walk more than 15 steps before I was in so much pain I was sick so I really hope you get sorted it sounds like you mabe have a infection, I feel lucky to have been in this hospital in redditch, uk , just watching and listening to the doctor on his rounds it's seriously like clockwork in here they are so professional it really is something else to watch , just waiting for my paperwork to come down now only a few hours to go home yay 😊
