Kidney removed 4 weeks ago and feeling feverish

Posted , 5 users are following.

Just under 4 weeks ago I had a radical laparascopic nephrectomy to treat chronic kidney disease which exhibited itself in recurrent infection and lots of pain. Ive been in pain since my surgery as im obviously still healing however the past couple of days ive had sharps pains around my largest incision and down to my hip (worth noting that incision has tightened) and today ive woken up feeling like I used to when I had infection in my kidney minus the back pain. I have a headache, cold sweats, shivvery, achey. I dont know whether im still in danger of infections almost a month after surgery or whether its worth going to the doctors. I dont want to be an inconvenience if ive simply got a virus but at the same time i dont know if this could be dangerous if it were an untreated infection.

Anyone?

Hi,the simple answer to your question is Yes,definitely see a doctor. It may well be nothing but go with your instincts. If you do have an infection it may well damage the kidney you have left.

Jess, we aren't medics on here so are unable to advise you.  After a serious operation like that, you will certainly not be an "inconvenience" - the doctors are being paid to look after you.  You could have a simple infectionand, if you do, it will definitely need treating whilst your body is trying to recover from the op.

I hope it might give you a bit of a boost at this time to hear that I had a kidney removed some 50 years ago following a childhood littered with recurrent infections.

Lots of good luck wishes and do come back and let us know how you get on.

Thanks for your reply, its fab to hear youre doing so well after having yours removed too, still early days for me but feel a lot better most days. I tend not to bother the doctors because theyve seen so much of me but i think youre probably right, better to be safe than sorry I guess x

it's your life, your pain, so i suggest you be a very big inconvenience.... (if that's what your Doctor wants to call it ?)   i'm not a doctor but i do know Pseudomonas  is a very common post surgery infection............ so be a real big inconvience to everyone until you get well.

      Hi, thanks for replying!

My other half is going to drag me to the doctors tomorrow if im no better. Ive been having pain around the incision my kidney was pulled through so i could do with checking that anyway... if i must wink

      Hi,

I would agree with what the other have said your better to go for nothing and for them to tell you that its all good than to do nothing and end up in a worse position.  You know your own body better than anyone so if you don't feel right get yourself checked x

Been to the doctors and ive got an infection in my remaining kidney. At the moment theyre treating it as a one off infection but I just hope this isnt the start of my other kidney going downhill as the kidney that was removed was plagued by disease and infection. Fingers crossed its just a post-op glitch!

try not to worry, as i said previously Pseudomonas, is a common post opp infection, but developing an infection in your remaining kidney, because your other kidney that had an infection was removed......... is not common, it's not even logical, so don't worry.
