Kidney stone symptoms

Posted , 1 user is following.

For the past five or six weeks I have had pain in the left kidney area and have been passing much less urine than usual with a mainly slow flow that is often like a thin squirt from a water pistol. More recently I have had pelvic pain (mainly during the night) that I at first thought must be prostatitis although most of my prostate (BPH) was removed by thulium laser surgery in May of last year. I am also having pain in my left testicle lower abdomen and groin.

After it worsening over the past few days all seemed well yesterday until I had to go to the loo during the night after which all of the pains returned.

I have hypertension and a small aortic aneurysm (3.6 cm) that has only increased from 3.2 over the last eleven years. My aneurysm is scanned every two years. The first scan also showed a lot of harmless cysts on my liver. Four years ago a Bosniak grade 1 cyst was noticed on my right kidney. This year in May the scan noted that I now have several cysts on the right kidney. I have yet to see the consultant after that scan.

I had a CT scan three years ago after having blood in my urine, probably from a burst blood vessel in my prostate and no kidney problems were found. At the end of 2012 I had other kidney tests looking for a reason for my uncontrolled BP over the past fourteen years, urine collection test, blood tests, an X-Ray and ultrasound scan without any kidney problems being found.

I recently had my annual blood and urine tests without any of the kidney ones being out of line.

Can I have developed a kidney stone sinceor one that did not show at the time of my recent CT scan?

There's so much in your history there that makes it advisable for you to go and see your GP again.

It could be any of those pre-existing issues and I would advise you to get them checked out professionally before one thing leads to another.

Could well be just a need for some antibiotics but you won't want to sit back and hope it'll go away on its own.

Let us know how you get on.

    Good luck.

With long periods of prostatitis for about five years it was only once bacterial prostatitis when it is non bacterial urlogists tend not not to believe:-)  I had several bladder infections and a severe kidney infection early last year while waiting for my prostate Laser surgery and then a catheter aquired infection.

One of the antibiotics at that time Fluoroquinolone brought back my achiles tendonitis.

I'll go and see my GP on Monday. Usually when I go to see him and describe whatever symptoms I am having he comments 'Classical **** symptoms:-)

      Hi Shefnet,

Had appointment this morning. Like me my GP rules out kidney problems in view of recent X-Rays and scans. My urine sample was very condensed and had a lot of protein in it.  Overnight Saturday I suddenly started to pass a lot of very pale urine. From 3am until 10am I used a jug to measure it and it was over two liters. From then until now I have hardly passed any.

He believes that I am 'brewing' an infection in the bladder neck area and has given me a week’s course of  Macrodantin (Nitrofurantoin). As always any pain is 'referred pain'

I forgot to say in my original posting that I had an initial appointment at a  hypertension referral centre (one of the few) last month at the renal unit . The consultant needed to get access to earlier kidney scans and X-Rays done at my local hospital in another area. He was also going to write to my GP to arrange for some other tests to be done locally to save me from travelling. So far my GP has not heard from him. I hope he is all right as he had a heart attack and went into cardiac arrest last year and was saved by his wife and daughter doing CPR until paramedics arrived.
