Kidney stones??

Hi everyone, I'm 22 and I've had tiny bits of blood in my urine for the past 8 months on and off(maybe one every month). I have slight pain in my lower back on sides.
Doctor told me it's probably kidney stones but I've had CT scan and ultrasound with normal results. I'm very worried now but doctor still thinks it's probably kidney stones.. does anyone know if kidney stones are sometimes missed in CT scans?

I had a CT scan in January last year. Dr at hospital said there was something there but could not be sure if it was actually in the kidney. A few weeks later a urologist saw exactly the same scan result and said "Good Lord, I see what the problem is you have a large kidney stone." So it does depend who looks at the results unfortunately!!

The pain and blood signals a stone. Could be a small stone that the CT missed. It is possible for a stone to be missed on a scan. I would get back in for another scan and more tests. You need to confirm %100 whether it's a stone or not. The blood is normal if it's a stone, but if it's not a stone, then that's concerning........get back in and keep us posted.

William, I'm not a doctor. I read CT scan is pretty accurate. Regarding ultrasound, my doctor is 50/50. One week he will see it, the next week he cannot. And of course the following week, it will show up again at the same spot.
My doctor advise me not to get additional CT scan unless I need to. It is very high in radiation.
I personally went to two urologists for my kidney stone. Perhaps you need a second opinion.

I agree with all of the above posts. And if you aren't seeing a urologist, it might be a good idea to have one review your CT scan. My experience with doctors outside of that specialty is that they don't really know that much about kidney stones. If the urologist is not finding a stone from your scan and rules out a stone and other urological issues that could be causing the bleeding and back pain, you should get a referral to a nephrologist for further kidney inspection. I'm going to assume kidney infection and UTI were ruled out at the hospital as they are usually the first things checked.
Another thought: were you experiencing pain and bleeding at the time of your CT scan? Or just following up after the pain symptoms resolved? I was told you can pass small stones that cause some pain, but not the agonizing pain most associate with stones. I believe I have passed some years before the big one that brought the problem to my attention. I used to have a few days of horrible back pain that would miraculously resolve which the urologist said could have been me passing a small stone. That could be another reason it wouldn't show up on CT.
