ok  for weeks now since my knee replacement surgery I can bend my knee 90° and I try my best to get the therapist says I'm doing good but went to the surgeon today was quite upset with me he said that my knee should be bent at 1:20 and my lake should be totally flat

I see him again in six weeks and he said that he better be totally flat and 120° band

he says that are not working. Any opinions on this

I am 13 weeks post TKR and had a MUA yesterday due to lack of range of motion. Had been stuck at 102 bend for a month, and at 3 straight. I resisted MUA due to fear of side effects, but even 1 day post op, I can see the benefit of a better bend. Doc got my bend to 130 in surgery, but with swelling and pain, it's much less today. I will continue daily PT for 10 sessions, as well as being on a CPM machine for 6 hours a day. I am willing to work hard again in PT (ouch) and at home, to have a better life to bike and kayak! I am 62, live in Indiana, and have appreciated everyone's replies on these posts. I will keep u posted on my progress. Pain not near what I feared it would be today after MUA. I am good! Hang in there and good luck!

Tell your doc to go take a flying leap.  He should know better.  Everyone progresses at their own individual pace.  Too many variables: how much scar tissue is building up, are you doing your heel slide exercises and squats religiously at home, has your PT really, really pushed your knee sufficiently to break up the scar tissue, how long have you been doing the PT, etc.

I started serious PT around 3-4 weeks post-op at -14 / +84.  It took TEN WEEKS @ 2X/week plus all the work at home to get to -1 / +123...and that was painful work.  There are advances, setbacks and plateaus.  I got stuck at -4 for weeks before breaking through.  But it's all worth it...at 16+ months post-op, I'm 0 / +133 and doing just fine...  It all takes time and it's different for everyone.

Chico said it beautifully, and just to add - this is incredibly early for you.  Don't listen to this surgeon.

I  had knee replacement 5 years ago.

It took me 6 weeks to get my bend to 90 so don't give up.

I was told however a few days after my knee replacement that what you don't achieve in the first 6 weeks you are unlikely to achieve.

Not sure I agree with though.

Take cre and keep in touch

You're basically almost just out of hospital.  Chico has written some awesome posts about this and I'm sure he'll post them for you.  Don't even think about an MUA, it's WAY too early.  You'll be fine just do the physio and it'll happen.

My range of motion improved most around the ten to twelve week period. I am surprised he said that.,.it may have been with the intention of simply encouraging you to keep exercising i guess.are you in UK or elsewhere? Try not to be discouraged. Things continue to improve for months and months!

Yes, movement in the knee joint is of the upmost importance, otherwise scar tissue becomes a major issue and can have a significant impact on your long-term recovery.

Four weeks? I doubt if any of us here were at 120 and flat. It took me three months of PT 3X week to achieve that. Have a talk with your PT and set up a routine of home exercises. Do your exercises, move and stretch your leg out with 5 pound weight on it. The leg should not be on any soft furniture. Put it up on coffee table. It hurts but it works. Do 5 minutes at a time working up to 15 minutes.

    My best to you

I agree 100% Ellen. Take the exercises home with you. Do them all day every day, pretty much. Ice, and do them some more....
