Dear Bosco, yes you can use a tens machine after knee replacement. When I was in PT they always used it with an ice pack after my work outs. I bought one for my personal use and did it at home with the ice pack just like the therapist did. Hope you have a great recovery!

    Hi Bosco

I am just over six months past surgery and had a great deal of trouble finding pain relief so at my six week visit to the consultant he actually recommended a tens machine. I bought one that worked on several frequencies, not knowing much about them but gave it a try. To be honest I found it most uncomfortable and I did not get any relief. As with all things on here it works well for some but not others! Good luck with it and your recovery. The bottom line is try it and see.

My physical therapist was happy to know that I already had a TENS from a prior surgery. I'm 7 months out from my second TKR and use it quite regularly at the end of my work day.

I think a TENS machine isn't good if people have heart problems not sure why but I have used one post op, infact it helped a lot in the first few weeks...I used it in the times where the pain medication wasn't quite enough, in between doses. It was effective pain relief for me. It meant I didn't need to crack into the morphine at least! I also used a TENS machine before my surgery, asn It enabled me to stand a bit more when working.
