Knee Braces

Posted , 2 users are following.

Around October time I dislocated my knee which then torn some cartilage. I after the recovery time I'm looking at returning to sport which my physiotherapist and knee specialist have all said is OK as long as am start by wearing a knee brace. The Knee braces they have recommendations to me are out of my price range and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendation for a good knee brace that is under £150?

Thank you in advance!

Price is NEVER the issue. You need a knee brace that will do what needs to be done to help your knee. There are a lot of manufacturers plus a ton of different models THAT DO DIFFERENT THINGS!!!

Example... I had a TKR on my left knee. The two worst things you can do to an implanted knee is to pound it and to twist it. So you give up running, singles tennis, all competitive sports, etc to handle the pounding/pressure issue. To solve the twisting/torquing possibility, I need a very specific brace to do that. Talked to a few docs, did my research and called the DonJoy company.

Told them that I wanted a brace that would never, ever allow the knee to twist. Answer: the DonJoy Defiance with a single hinge. Their other Defiance models (double hinge, ForcePoint, etc.) as well as any of their other braces would not do the job as well. So, I'm saving my money plus looking on eBay. Lots of people have braces that they no longer want or need. If you know your size (DonJoy will have you take some measurements and tell you your correct size), you might find the right one on-line. It has to be specifically left or right...they are NOT the same!!!

In my case, I've seen the $900 brace I need for less than $200. Of course, this completely bypasses seeing a DonJoy expert in your area and getting custom fitted for your brace...so you're still taking a chance. The trick is talking to some experts who will recommend the EXACT brace you need. Some work for ACL problems, others for meniscus issues, etc. You MUST discover the right brace for your medical condition...period.
