Knee Cartilage Recovery

Hey guys, new to this but was wondering if i could get some advice. Tore the meniscus in my left knee about 3 months and went to see my physio etc who recommended leaving the knee to heal by itself because im still young (20). Been given the all clear by my physio to return to sport and the cartilage has healed. However, went for a run yesterday and felt discomfort in the front/top of my knee. I've had a history of knee problems since messing up my ITB running a marathon. Anyway, I'm unsure if this knee pain is a result of the cartilage tear (and if it is, is there anything I should be doing) or just my knee flaring up again. Any advice is welcomed! Thanks!

You need to rest your knee, take painkillers and use ice on it regularly especially if swollen. If you have no improvement after a couple of days , then you need to be checked by doctor. Hope things improve for you .

Hi Sarah, he said I have torn scar tissue deep down and as I am seeing surgeon next Monday for 6 week check up, to rest more and try to carry on with exercises. Apparently I will have another x Ray then so they will see what damage I have done. I feel like I have gone back a couple of weeks, stiffness and pain in knee and can only do some exercises as too painful. I am trying to carry on but am so fed up, it's made me nervous in

case in gives way again. No good. How are you getting on ? Kind regards Jannette

hi oliverp you are very young to have problems with your knee ,but in saying that my son too has suffered with his knees since early 20s he is now 32 and still if he plays football or runs his knees trouble him so much that he now has given up sport well high impact sport !! because of this he is building up his fitness with cycling nothing mad but he feels better cycling is a non impact on the knees ,as long as he dose not try to cycle huge distances .some people im afraid are not suitable for high impact sports it can be too much impact on the joints ,its not fair but that is how it is .when you fast forward your life to your 50s or earlier you might be glad that you curtailed some of your sportĀ  maybe find a less impact sport that dose not push your knees good luck hope it works out for you

See if you can be referred to an orthpaedic consultant or a sports physio

    Hope this settles down.

When I tore the meniscus in my left knee in 2011 dr. Said not to operate on it since sometimes that stints things up inside and makes it worse. I was never able to exercise to the extent that I used to after that. And have had TKR on this past December 10. My husband has bad knees and he cycles. That is very good advice. It is much lower impact on knees. Good luck to you! My son, 48, has had knee issues since he was injured playing hockey in high school. Now he does cross fit and it has really started to act up again. He may need TKR. You r young, hope u heal and can go w/ur life!!

My suggestion would be that you see an orthopedic surgeon and get an mri so you can a ctually see soft tissue damage and take a look at The complete picture of diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. Otherwise, you could be doing more damage to the leg without even k nowing it.
