Hi, I had my TKR on April 12th, 2018. I think you're doing great! I'm still having problems with pain. I'll get a good day and over do myself, and then I'm laid up the next day. Do you remember if that's how it was for you at 3 weeks?

Yes at 3weeks l was only getting about 70 degrees bend  and my leg  straighting was not to bad, but l came out of hospital after 3days with a sickness bug so l was out of action for about a week and lost nearly a stone so l was a bit late getting into my physio but l seem to have pulled it back but l was in pain until about 6 to 7 weeks and not sleeping to well.

It’s a hard recovery and you are not told this at the time of your consultation. I have to see my surgeon in sept this year for my other knee but l will not have it done until this one is back to normal.

      Good luck with your recovery.

You are doing great. You’re an example to all TKR patients. Keep it up.

What's your extension?  Zero?  These can help...

Are you doing enough?  Unfortunately, no.  Your quads, glutes and core are all atrophied.  These are the muscles that support the knee.  They must be rebuilt or all the pressure stays on the new joint.  You definitely don't want that.  Plus the muscles give you balance, enable you to walk correctly without favoring one side and let you go up and down stairs without holding onto anything like a normal person.  Here's the program...

Start slowly...this will take the remainder of year #1.  Then you can dance at your first anniversary party!

You’ve made me think: I’m comfortable with my leg (Dec) to the extent that apart from a one day a week class I am not deliberately doing excercises as such. I’m very active generally but not going through a definite routine. That must change. Your post has given me a wakeup call. Thanks.
