I had a cortisone injection in my tight knee last Thursday to take the the pain away from  it after having THR in June as it seemed that it was the knee pain was causing me to still limp!

all seemed ok but obviously the anaesthetic was dulling any pain now 6 days later the pin s still there and my knee feels stiff and swollen is this normal and could it still kick in or should I contact my doctor again???

Me too Lynn but apparently it's the realignment of the knee that is causing the problem! I had an X-ray and the arthritis is not too bad , I m sooo fed up you get rid of one pain to gain another !!!!

Annette..i too had knee pain after each hip was done. Mine was stiff and swollen too. In part do to the operation itself. My pt told me that during the operation they actually have to hammer the knee so the hip fits in correctly. I had walked around in pain for ten years prior to op. The body is also trying to realign. Believe it or not this will go away. Ice it..keep raised and use pillow under legs at night. If this doesnt help see doc again. Good luck!

Stiff it's not as concerning as swollen

I had my knee injected didn't have any problems. I felt so much better after wards.in fact it was a turning point to the good in my ability to walk.

Maybe you should call your doctor. I sure hope you don't have an infection. How you get well sonn. smile

I have two knees that will probably need replacement within the next 5 years, but my doc thnks the hip replcements I just got (left in June, right just 2 weeks ago) shold give me a few extra years on the knees.  I get synvisc-one injections in both knees every 6 months, but I did notice a bit more knee pain in the weeks following the hip replacements.  The knee pain disappeared after about 4 weeks for the left hip, and hopefully will be the same for the right side.  Fortunately, my surgeon, my rheumatologists, and my primary care doctor all have web portals for patients to submit questions and get responses within 24 hours, which worked great for the zillion post-op questions I had.  When I asked about the knee pain I was told it was probably attributable to the hip replacement surgery and should dissipate within 4 to 12 weeks, which was right on the money for the first operation.  Do as denise suggested but also contact your doctor if for no other reason than to have the issue noted in your records in case it doesn't go away as expected.

I guess it stands to reason that if we radically mess with one section of our body, then other sections will be affected in some way.  I too have bad knees that will need replaced and one already had a surgery that is to last 7 to 10 years and this is the 8th year.  Have had two THR's and quite frankly, I wish that these orthopaedic surgeons would be made to study chiropractic medicine along with their other studies.  These docs have the challenge and responsibility of putting us back together into normal positions, right?

With all of the injections I have had to help reduce swelling and pain in the joints, the doc tells me that it takes two weeks before the medication begins working.  Perhaps this is the same for you?

    All my best!
