Knee injury- slighty crushed knee cap
Posted , 2 users are following.
I injured my knee whilst squatting about a year ago, after several months of seeing doctors (who didnt offer much help other than rest) i finally got an MRI scan (attached below) which showed that my knee cap is slightly broken.
My knee gets inflammed when i run or do most leg excersises and I feel acute pain in just under the knee cap when I do excesses knee motion such as pushing up once squatted down. I don't feel pain whilst bending my knee going down the squat but when pushing back up I feel the acute pain. Its been a year since the injury, I've given it rest but the pain and inflammation still persist. I really need help with this, any suggestions as to how I fully recover?

Hey,
So sorry to read you're going through this. What my thoughts are, just reading from your post, is that your knee cap should have healed by now. It is possible that when you broke it, you had some damage done to the cartilage behind your knee cap with broken pieces from your fracture, causing what is known as chondromalacia. The fracture might have caused the exposed kneecap’s bony surface to grind painfully against other knee bones. Also, bits of cartilage can float inside the joint, further irritating the cells that line the joint.
I would get a new x-ray to confirm the healing, and begin with specific exercises. If doing squats is painful, begin by only going down 30-45 degrees, and progressing gradually. A common mistake for people rehabbing from injuries is to go right back to their sport or activity of choice. You really need to take it slow and develop your quad and abductor muscle strength.
Visit your doctor and request to get Physical Therapy, after he has determined you are ready for it make sure you follow through. Then you can get you back to top performance!
Best of luck.
