Knee is unusable then "pop" and its fine

I've been experiencing a problem on the inner part of my left knee. Something (a twist, or bending too far) will trigger what I can only describe as a sliding or a moving on the inner part of my knee. This causes much pain and instability, I can't move my knee without pain, and it cannot bear weight.
Usually I am able to physically straighten my knee with my hands. I then hear and feel a loud "pop" and suddenly my knee is fine again. No pain and full range of motion.
Recently I woke up with the sensation that it was out of place and I was unable to fix it. I went to ER and they saw nothing in X-rays because it's not bone situation. Went for and exam with orthopedoc doc, and he said he can't conclude without MRI.
I schedule MRI and literally right before I get into the car, "pop" my knee is fine again. I went for the MRI in hopes that they'll still be able to see something, but I'm wondering if anyone has had this experience and can share info.

Not me but I do have something for you to think about...
Over a decade ago, I had four knee incidents (two each side)...ALL of them resulted in the MRIs showing absolutely nothing. Each time, my ortho had to scope the knee to find the problem...two torn menisci, two ripped femoral condyles.
On occasion, they just gotta go in and see what's happening inside...

Hi Andrew don't know if this will be of help. I had the same but on the outer side of my right knee. It kept happening then 3 1/2 years ago there was the same loud pop leg couldn't straighten until couple hours later. Went to the a&e department they said ligament referred me for an MRI. When the results came back they said lateral ligament was over stretched there is some arthritis and a little worn meniscus.
They said as it wasn't impacting my life they would not do arthroscopy. Fast forward to 9 weeks ago same thing happened except my leg has now been locked ever since the pain and not being able to weight bear properly is a nightmare.
Luckily I am having op on Friday for a bucket handle tear and he is going to assess what else is going on in there.
I would definitely push for the scope because it's only gonna get worse prevention is they key if only my dr had thought that way.
Best of luck and hopefully they will get it sorted sooner rather than later for you x

Hi Andrew, My knees did exactly that for years before I had 2 TKRs. I was bone on bone for many years and my knees did all sorts of horrible things. Defiinitely have the MRI. They'll be able to see so much more than on an exray. Let us know how you go.
