Knee lock Osteoarthritis (Age 35)

Ok so I have severe osteoarthritis and a history of patella dislocation. Ive been to 2 different doctors for the dislocation problem, was told with the kneecaps never being in proper place the surgery to correct that may not help at all. And the total knee replacement.... oi. it is like pulling teeth getting any physician to agree that I need to have my knees done, despite my "young" age. Now my knee has begun locking. And let me say, when it does, its stuck ant its the worst excruciating pain I have ever experienced. Frightening! When I get in this position, would I be able to just extend the leg real fast for relief? I just dont know what the consequences would be, or how bad it would feel. I cant go to the ER every other day and thats almost how often its happening! please? anyone?

believe me, i've been to therapy... many times. they even gave me a don joy brace to keep the bones from rubbing. i use it to walk everyday but sure cant sleep with that clunker. and i just need to be able to bend my knee... i cant keep it straight all of the time, it makes it more stiff-like. sorry for your troubles too.

Rapid extension is a bad, bad idea.
Relax,I know the pain is horrific...relax, breath in slowly, expire slowly. Now use your hands to gently flex the knee. It doesn't have to be a big movement. Now gently extend the knee.
This is how I manage my knee which locks.
Prevention, a neoprene knee compression sleeve...Safe-T-Sport knee brace at Amazon or eBay or pharmacies, is specifically made to cradle to patella, knee cap and has coverex metal braces on the side for stabilization...you will need to measure the circumference of your knee in order to determine the correct size.
Extend your leg straight up and hold it up for 30 seconds. Now slip the sleeve on. Be sure to properly allow the sleeve to cradle your patella, the knee cap. Flex your knee a couple of times to ensure that your patella is able to properly glide without impingment.
You may sleep in the sleeve. You may walk in the sleeve.
